WHY IS EVERYONE SAYING IT'S JUST A MOVIE ABOUT A RETARTED GUY!!!

Everyone keeps saying the whole movie is about some retarted guy. Well, to those people, I have to ask, have you ever met a person with special needs? My mom works with special needs kids at a middle school, and I have never met anyone who is better to be around. No matter what kind of mood you're in, if a Down Syndrome child comes up to give you a hug, you know what true innocence is. These kids don't know about drugs and crime, they just know that they love everyone. One of my best friends are down syndrome kids. This is exactly how Radio is. He doesn't care that Johnny and the others picked on him and beat him up. He forgives all of them completely. That takes a lot more than most people I know. This movie isn't about a retarted guyy inspiring a town or any of the other crap you people who have reviewed this movie have come up with. This movie is about a guy who doesn't see the bad in people, but accepts them for what they are. Through his caring for everyone he teaches Coach Jones to connect with his family, for Johnny to actually become a decent guy, and for the people at this school to learn a valuable lesson: they need to be more like Radio, cause he has this innocence about him that makes him capable of loving even the scum of the earth. So for all you critics who keep referring to this as a film about a retarted guy, I have to feel sorry for you, cause you will never know what it is like to brighten someone's day by just saying hi and giving them a hug. Cause that is all it takes to make Radio and those like him happy.

Hey geniuses: I didn't come here to read your junior high bs, i came here to get some opinions on a film. So try sticking to the subject! No one cares who spelled who's name wrong, go bicker somewhere else. You're wasting space. And you're wasting everyone's time.

when i was watching that movie, it hurt so bad inside, seeing how those guys were making fun & almost torturing an innocent person who didnt even hurt nobody, but who was just living his life the way he could... these kind of narrow-minded people usually dont see anybody but themselves & their big EGO. quite often the real ones with mental problems are those people themselves, coz that kind of mocking of weaker persons make them feel so strong & powerful inside, while they are maybe being suppressed by someone they cant return the "favor"... & because of their ignorance, they wont ever understand that they are hurting the innocent or they just dont care as long as they can let their inner anger out. until one day, could happen that they have a child with the same kind of problems as the person, they used to laugh at.
my friend once said that most of the bad things & crimes usually take place because of the peoples disinterest, coz they dont care.
but thats what this word has always been about----among sweet & caring people who share love, there are always cruel, rude & ignorant(not to say stupid...)people who find satisfaction in bringing about the hate.
despite of all that, fortunately there are intelligent people, who can understand whats the message of that movie & what could be the world of those retarded(which is not even an abusive-word as some are used to use it!) people. their world & themselves are several times better than this world & those people who like to think that they are so normal!!!

I agree. This movie is beautiful, it made me cry buckets of tears. And made me relize.. that you should accept everyone, and when someone does something bad to you.. forgive them.

Harry Potter,Skandar Keynes,Dakota Fanning, & Narnia are my favorite.

I think that harry potter is really retarted because it is about someone who was born with no powers but he got his powers after he got hit by that one dude and he got that lighting bolt scar which is also stupid. I think that they should get rid of harry potter because it is stupid and point less

I'm scrolling down, seeing all the posts that were deleted by administrators, and it just makes me ashamed to live in a world with such heartless people. Do you have nothing better to do with your lives?

Let's get these teen hearts beating faster, faster

I just saw Radio for the very first time last night, the message was clearly received.

It’s very sad to see how some people can be so cruel to a person who is “different” or just slow. How some people are just blatantly dismissive of persons who like Radio, are special.

I have my on philosophy (medical science aside) as to why persons such as Radio are put in our path and I know some on this board will understand, and others will not. I think it’s exactly like Coach Jones (Ed Harris) said, we think we are teaching them, when the truth is, they are teaching us.

If more people listened to and incorporated that lesson into their lives, then the world would be a better place. But being a slave to ignorance and intolerance is far easier then being the companion of compassion.

I loved this movie alot! It was truly moving and great. Wish Cuba was nominated for an Oscar because he did a very belivable portryal. I was speechless after watching this movie, in a goood way.

Hmmm...seems to me that the real "retards" of the world are people on this very message board with handles like "Cellfone97" and such, but I digress.
I agree with most of you (the ones extolling this film's virtues). I remember reading the story about Radio in Sports Illustrated about 10 years ago, which brought him into national consciousness, and I thought at the time that Radio's life would make a teriffic movie, and darned if I wasn't right. I'm just a bit teed that it took me until recently to see it.
This film deserved more recognition than what it received.
