Anyone else thought wedding recording friend had gay crush on the groom?

...up until it is revealed on the video that he is in love with Keira Knightley? Because he arranged Brasilian hookers turned out to be having pricks on stag night, and he always seemed to me that he is hating Keira for stealing his man. I was suprised to see that he was actually into Keira. Then he pulled a Humphrey Bogart, from Casablanca's ending you know what I mean. Cool.

reply

Not really like Casablanca, because in that theay are in love with each other, in this it is one sided. There is no question of her going off with him, as far as I can see.

reply

Just saw this for the first time the other day and I thought the same as well.

reply

yeah, I totally think that was an intentional plot twist. The lady at the wedding even asks him if he has feelings for the groom, so the audience would be led to believe as such until the moment when the tape recording that he filmed was revealed to focus entirely on Keira.

reply

Exactly how I see it too. AS you said the lady asks if he has feelings for the groom, and Keira Knightley's characters also makes the comment that she thought he didn't like her or kept her distant because he liked her husband. Definitely seems like it was intended to make you think that he was gay and into the groom

This was one of two plot lines that made an unexpected turn for me. The other, with the guy who went to Wisconsin. He stumbles into some random bar with a bunch of hot women - I thought that was either going to be a fantasy, or that they were prostitutes.

reply

This happens IRL; a woman steps in and inadvertently breaks up a bromance. The odd man out resents her for it. Not a gay thing at all (at least not consciously).
He was clearly very invested in the friendship, so I can understand the OP's interpretation.

reply

No.

Might have changed the script part way. You definitely weren't wrong thinking it was gay crush. Sarah's conversation with Mark was the biggest indication. Too bad it turned out to be a red herring.

reply

Gay men aren't into chicks with dicks. Gay men are into men with dicks.

reply

That's what I initially thought, until it was revealed to be otherwise. I think that was intentional on the part of the film's makers.
