After watching the series for a second time, I think so. It's so well put together and I don't think there will ever be another TV series with the type of impact, influence, and realism that The Wire had.
With that said, The Sopranos is still neck and neck with The Wire and The Sopranos has bar none the best TV series ending of all time.
I haven't seen the sopranos and breaking bad is definitely not on the same level as the wire, sorry. I'm not really sure what else would be the best unless we go into comedies, but it's difficult to compare comedy and drama. I think it's the best drama of all time, I suppose that could change when I watch the sopranos, but I honestly doubt it. The wire is a masterpiece.
Finished the series (on DVD) this past weekend, and all I can say is WOW! All those friends of mine who have been suggesting I watch it over the past decade - I owe them a big ol'apology. It really was a great series.
My favorite season was 4, I think. Something about that season where we saw such great changes and shake-ups.
My favorite character was Bubbles. Too watch him as a character make such a turn-around into a completely new (and believable) character at the end was heart-wrenching. The actor who played him deserved an Emmy for Season 5.
Now I'm into season 2 of 'Empire' - a far cry from 'The Wire'. And who do I see in this show with a recurring role in season 2? Bubbles!
