This film doesn't get talked about enough imo. Do people not realize how important this film was. This was the first film to give a rapper an Oscar. Like does anyone realize how much this impacted Eminems career at the time.
It’s almost 20 years old now (my ... that really hits me). Everything cools down over time.
What I do know is that this movie was a big deal at the time; it was widely talked about in society. I remember being in middle school at the time. All the kids talked about it, all the kids tried to dress like Eminem, a lot of the kids tried rap battling because of this movie. It was a big box-office hit, it was critically acclaimed, it made Eminem (an already huge name) even bigger and more successful.
Another reason it isn’t talked about today is that rap music itself is not as big as it was in 2002. So a movie about rap battling just doesn’t have the same force as it did. Also, Eminem today isn’t so hot anymore; a lot of his biggest fans even regard him as a has-been. He’s almost 50 (which again ... really hits me hard).
I understand where your coming from and I get that this film is old, however I expected many people to consider this a classic cause of how much this impacted Eminem. And I definitely agree that rap isn't as big as it was at that time so that actually makes quite a bit of sense. I myself am a huge Eminem fan and I just feel like this film should've get more buzz and I also agree his new stuff isn't nearly as good as his old music.
