I liked it!!

Am I the only person that liked this movie???

I found it beautiful, and almost in a genre for itself....

To me it's a film about life... I've just seen it, and I'm now looking forward to listening to the commentary...

I love it as well, I´m almost getting upset with all the silly try-to-be-critics... Appearently it´s hard for some people to use their imagination and their sense for romance.

this might be the future we´re going towards with all this hate...

reply

Yes... good point

it's nice to (finally) hear that other people love the film aswell

I Loved this movie as well. However we seem to be in a minority. The film just opened over in the UK to poor reviews. Does no one else like it.

P.s where can I get hold of the D.V.D

I really wanted to like it, but there was just, I dunno, a certain something I failed to connect with. Having said that it was an unusual and visually pleasing movie, with real imagination. So, although I didn't fall for it fully, I did enjoy many parts of it, but perhaps not the whole. Maybe I'll see it again.

I think its one of the best films ive seen in a while as its so completely different. The storyline was really interesting with the different twists and ideas. All the the actors in it were great as well. Also the ideas from the film i dont think are that far off from actually happening, like with the weather.

I have to admit that I also really wanted and hoped to enjoy this film, and did at times... But can someone tell me what the hell the flying africans were all about? And why they chose to walk such a long distance through all that snow instead of, say renting a helicopter? And did't all the four Elenas get fragged on the ice that night? How come the real one just gets up again and walks away...?

Help me and my little head, please.

reply

Well, is just rented it yesterday, not knowing what to expect and only knowing vinterberg form the Dogme-group. And I must say I was amazed!:D What a great movie!!!!. I think it's a perfectly written story which may,i must admit, by times be a bit confusing. Although the storyline may rise some questions, i think this is a movie you should just watch and not question to much. The images were just wonderfull! Great cinematography. It makes you feel like you're in a dream for 1h 40 min and than you can't get out of it. It just won't let go:):):)

i think it is very easy to dismiss this film as a pile of rubbish and I can also
understand if it is despised by American audience.
I think the flying africans were all about ... love (the lack of it, the water
the world the hearts becoming colder and colder)
The way I see it , the rest of the world does not and will not simply care about
what happens in certain countries.
I liked this film because altoughif I can spot a lot of thing already seen before,
things said by uneasy directors like Siedl or the swedish Roy Andersson
superflous morality like in kurosawa or even Spielberg, I liked to spot even too many references
-I might be wrong- Medem, Wenders, Coppola, Lynch (Wild at Heart)....
This anti-dogme Vinterberg seemed to me odd in a different way than all these directors
and i'm looking forward to his next film

P.S. the real one just gets up again and walks away: personally I thought she fell
just as she though that way she could survive

In fact, the soundtrack is on sale. It took me ages to get it, but I finally did. You can find it in amazon.uk.
About the movie, I kinda got confused in some parts, but really fell in love with it after thinking about it for a while.

I like the movie, I find it very original. It is about life and how you keep living through love... and the main cause of world destruction is the lack of love. Nicely shown, the message was great. The scenes fantastic, the atmosphere the best for its plot! It it is a surprizing film. As about the acting, Sean was great, about the others, I would expect more.

the world is getting cold because of the cold hearts and the cold behaviour of the humans - or are the hearts getting cold because of the cold world?

you can interpretate it in different ways... but it doesn't matter, because it is an excellent movie, no - it's an experience

It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. And not because of the plot, but because of the feeling I got from this movie. Three days after I watched it I felt like a total stranger to this world. I even went to a party and I asked myself what am I doing there ... Couldn't even care for my daily problems, couldn't even worry for my death. Nothing could scare me, I was outside this world . Absolutely great movie. Rated it 10, because there's no 11.

I have just seen the movie, and I really really liked it. I need something (I don´t know what) before I will give it 10/10, but it really moved me, and I really liked it, everything just worked perfectly. I am looking really much forwad to see the next movie from Vinterberg.

I guess this just goes to show that you could film a pile of crap for an hour and a half and someone would find something in it's execution. Trust me people, I watch some very out there films. I also watch some bottom-of-the-barrel dreck, and I can find things to like about them. Then there are movies like this that so-called geniuses throw in some incredible and unusal circumstances and people find beauty and poetry poring out of every frame. Believe me there are better love stories without this weirdness that means NOTHING! It is about the same as reading a 15-year old girls poetry--beautiful without any true meaning. Films are very important expressions of the artists creating them, when that trust between film lover and film creator is warped and used for either money-making or insanity-I quit, I give up. I also find a great joy in detailing why your thoughts on films are invalid. Don't get me wrong, you can like a movie for many different reasons, just don't attack the critics because they can actually dissect a film and see it's true value. I love many "bad" films. The only difference is I know they are bad and why they have significence to me. I would never try and defend them. Please try and understand the difference!!!!!

I enjoyed this movie as well. It was certainly a treat you don't see everyday.

Pleeease someone tell me - I totally didn't get about the whole Michael thing - it being his personal agenda, and about the date and he was treated like a dog... what did he do wrong?
Sorry for being so stupid, but I would be eternally grateful if someone explained it to me....

Hello Melanie

The date in the calender told us that he already knew about the assasination attempt. So when John finds out he tries to blame it on his boss' that treated him like a dog (ordering him around all the time) and who never gave him a chance before now.

I admit that I haven't seen the movie, but I thought the post was so funny, I'd respond. I've been reading the message board for The Village and I'm wondering who ARE these people? Are they all a bunch of art critics of film students or WHAT? Maybe they THINK they are. They do these in depth analyses of The Village and explain why they thought it was a piece of crap and why they think M. Night is just some big crap artist. All the while I'm reading I'm sitting there thinking to myself, "Well, I kinda, sorta liked the film." Which is about as deep as my thoughts generally go on these matters because I have a busy, fulfilling life but when I get too tired to go, go, go anymore, I plop my butt down in front of the tube and pop in a DVD. Then, the big decision, did I like it or not? No complex analysis (and if you think I'm incapable of complex analysis, YOU'RE WRONG). I plan to see this film one day and look forward with amusement to seeing floating people. Since the film is sci-fi, I'll try not to laugh.
