Why Is Thia Movie Hated?

I'm watching it now, I liked it and I remember watching in theaters. Thought it was a cool action flick. Why did IMDB rate it 5.7?

For me, the goal was to some how save Emma & when it sank in that the Time Traveler is stuck in the future & that future was such a wicked mess, I was dissapointed to realize what I *thought* was the entire point of the movie was lost...to time...

I liked it too. My guess is people much prefer the previous version of this film.

It's an okay watch, but has kind of a "TV Movie" vibe feel to it, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.
It deviates from the book, characters seemed bland, action was over the top CGI as usual.

The 1960s version was supercool being that it had no CGI to do the aging effects. Here, it's JUST MORE COMPUTER GAME GRAPHICS to do that. Ho hum. Same old same old.

That said, it's not like a 2 or anything, just nothing too memorable.

I remember going to see it in the theater. Guy Pearce was hot at the time, coming off L.A. Confidential, Memento and The Count of Monte Cristo, and I was high on him.

The movie wasn't terrible but it was a disappointment. I was expecting more and certainly hoping for more. I have never felt the desire to revisit it.

Sums up my feelings too.

I like this movie.

The second half wasn't well-written, and the ending was a little bit disappointing.

I actually rented this movie around it got released. Can't remember if it was DVD or on VHS.

I liked it. The ending was initially a disappointment. Specifically, a brilliant scientist giving all the conveniences, tools, and equipment of modern life and to further his science. OTOH, I am made aware that while people who "work themselves to death" have made great achievements, they've often lost sight of more meaningful things, and those close to them. I figured the ending was his way of saying he just wants to settle down. In every way of that aspect... that women, that time period, that type of environment, with that community.

Other things I liked about this movie were the soundtrack. Specifically, the Eloi track, and the music when our protagonist was designing and creating his time machine, to moments it was first used. Special effects were good. At least I haven't seen much like that until that point (super fast forward of earth, and society)
