Why did they cast 48 year old Dennis Quaid to play a much younger 35 year old man? I realize Jim Morris is suppose to be "over the hill" compared to the 19-22 year olds that are generally major league rookies, but come on. Its like they were hell bent on selling Morris as an old man, when in fact he was only "old" in regards to pro sports.

shareFor me it completely worked having Dennis Quaid played the role. He has a natural boyishness that added to his portrayal. They did a much better job showing him pitch than Kevin Costner in "For Love of the Game" or David Straithairn in "Eight Men Out." In both of those they couldn't disguise that the pitches were lob jobs.
It helped that Dennis had a pitching double.
The real Jim Morris was kinda overweight. If they REALLY wanted to go for realism, then may John Goodman could have played the role.
Apparently you think people playing characters not their real age is something new? Sally Field played Mary Todd Lincoln in the movie Lincoln. Mrs. Lincoln was 47 when Abe was assassinated. Sally Field was 67 when that movie was released. Stockard Channing played a high school senior in Grease when she was 33. Olivia Newton-John was 30 playing a teenager in the same film. Hell, most of the cast were in their mid to late 20's. It's really no big deal.
shareIt's called, "acting," DUH! Do you have any idea how many older people play younger parts and vice-versa? He looked good for 48. I didn't know he was that much older than his character. Plus, since it's a movie, WHO CARES!?

shareThey did the same thing in The Natural, I think they did it to highlight his 'oldness.'. There other 19-22 year old young ones looked 29-35 year olds so they had to up his age.
