Season 11 ... uh, what happened?

Something doesn't seem right in S11. Larry used to be annoying in a funny way ... now he just seems annoying, and predictable.

The first two season 11 shows are like the worst of CYE. Something is missing.

Second episode was meh. First episode was prettay good.

reply

OK, but not prettay , prettay , prettay , prettay , prettay , prettay good.

reply

But also the whole idea that Larry would try to give the lead role in his new NetFlix series to an obese crazy girl ... to me it was not funny, and it kind of bordered on humiliation. The two episodes just did not feel right. Larry who usually has some reason for this peculiar behavior just seems like an a-hole this season, so far.

reply

"Larry would try to give the lead role"

he was blackmailed into doing this.

reply

Yeah, I watched the episode, I just thought it was stupid and not believable.

reply

Agree 100%. Even as a single episode plot this would be weak, and they're dragging it out all season.

It's really low hanging fruit stuff. Sad as the in episode stories have been decent.

reply

Sadly have to agree.

To be fair the COVID hoarder scene was right up there with Curb's best but otherwise something does seem wrong.

The plot to get the pool death's relative a part seems too much of a repeat of the Cheryl on Seinfeld storyline.

The "ratty" towel thing may have been funny many, many seasons ago but just seemed contrived - especially having Cheryl repeat the accusation.

Plus I'm not sure what's going on with the Netflix thing - black guy gay, lesbian, woman in a wheelchair. Is that supposed to be a joke?

I hope it gets better. Season 10 with the Mocha Joe / spite coffee store storyline was great, so I don't think it just a case of it just getting stale. Just poor episodes. Hopefully.

I wasn't sure at first but when he went to Hulu and they had the same diverse crew, it was pretty clear it was making fun of it.

reply

Wow episode 3 was a huge improvement.

reply

I didn't care for it. There is something wrong or missing, the feel of the show is completely different. I wonder if it is because they were hobbled by the pandemic?

reply

Season 10 was already meh, even poor. It's all Flanderization and cash grabbing.
CYE lasted 9 seasons in my book and I loved them.

reply

To me it just feels like there is a big gulf between season 10 and season 11.
10 did not feel forced or like they did not know what they were doing.
It was pretty kooky with the restrooms in the spite store, but generally it was funny.
I think I might have laughed a few times in this new season, something is different.
Larry is not being curmudgeonly, he's just being a prick.
It also seems borderline cruel and racist to humiliate that fat Mexican girl too, I don't find her funny, just pathetic.
Something big changed here.
