Why did Maguire still come after Michael at the end?

I thought Nitti called off the hunt after agreeing to give Connor away to Michael?

Or for revenge since Sullivan messed up his face pretty bad when he shot the glass in the hotel room.

Macguire seemed like a psychopath so he probably was gonna go after him anyway considering he messed up his face

Remember, Michael was rebuffed by Nitti and by proxy, Capone, so he set about stealing Likely 10s of thousands or more of the mob's money. He was, thus, marked for death, regardless of the fate of Mike's mentor (Newman) or his son (Craig). Ya just didn't 'cross' the mob. Plus The psycho photographer/hitman enjoyed his work, and a 'contract is a contract'. WHAT is ODDER to me I that Mike knew he was being pursued by the man, even mentioned to his son about Perdition : "We can't go there now' but does, anyway. idk. Just a plot, and offered up an honorable death for Mike, and proof that the son was 'unspoiled' by his beloved Dad's profession.

Nah - remember when Hanks goes to kill Daniel Craig. Nitti's men basically let Hanks go through. The suggestion is that Hanks and Nitti were all good at the end.

I think Nitti did call off the hitman. But Jude Law was pissed off about his face, and his psycho qualities pushed him to keep going, contract or not.

Hanks likely assumed that this hitman, like all other hitmen, was just business. With the contract off, he assumed the hitman wouldn't trouble them. That's why he went to the beach-house, despite his earlier "He knows that we're going there" comment. He figured the hitman was done.

While I believe the whole revenge for the face thing is true, I think there is also the comment that Maguire values his kills based on difficulty, and he had already indicated that he admired Mike's work. So in a way, I think he saw him as quite the trophy kill and desperately wanted that picture.

I always saw it as --- He was paid to do a job and was going to complete it

Remember at the start of The Good The Bad & The Ugly --- Angel Eyes is talking to one of his clients after he hit his target THEN tell the Client that before the target died he paid him to kill that guy --- Something like that

Maguire may have already been paid and was just completing his contract. Even bad guys have a code of honor --- sort of
