Yeah, but someone like, oh, I don't know, Kristen Kruek would have been a better choice. She really IS half white (though half Dutch), half Indonesian.

But many of the other "natives" in the movie have didn't exactly have "round" eyes. In any case, I'm pretty sure Kristin is Indonesian Chinese (meaning that she might not be exactly 50% Chinese) and Dutch, not Danish.

Everyone is a movie star nowadays, no one is an actor.

Kristen Kruek is an amazing actress - what are you on? She was fantastic in Smallville, and don't think I'm supporting her just because she is hot. I really do think she can act really well. And, for that matter, so can Jessica Alba. What films were they bad in?

What films are they bad in? More like what films is she good in? I have never seen ONE Alba film that is good let alone were she gives a great performance or even mediocre for that matter...and Kreuk I can;t say cause I have never seen anything with her in it...

Well I will admit in the case of Alba, when I used to watch her in Dark Angel (for two seasons which is loads of screen time) her insane hotness may well have distracted from any lack in acting ability. But she was good enough in my opinion, as I have definitely seen far worse. Kreuk I'll stick with - I think she was actually very good, even if her character became somewhat annoyingly whiney in the later seasons of Smallville.

jessica did a great job as selima....the way she speaks and her b0dy language was exactly like a half iban+english w0men...thats why,i think shes better doing that role...if selima is half chinese+english,that will be 0key if kreuk play that role....but hye, its malaysia lol....

Jessica Alba does look like a Malaysian girl. Why bother? It's just a movie. But this may interest you: I am a Sabahan, a KadazanDusun about Alba's size (5"7'. We KadazanDusuns are known for our uncanny similarity with the Chinese and Indo-Chinese. But some people have mistook me for a Malay, Pakistani or foreigner either because of my size, my nose and appearence. Some of my cousins are uncannily European while having full native blood like me. So, any question? I think Alba fits in just as Kreuk if Kreuk were to be cast as Selima.

if the movie were all about a pretty girl sitting in the background with pretty scenery, yes, she would be perfect. unfortunately for Alba, she has to <i>act</i> as well.

Colour-blind casting is fine for most movies, but in movies where the PLOT revolves around an encounter between different cultures colour-blind casting would be stupid. Could you imagine if they had done, say, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" with a bunch of blond people with Midwestern accents as the bride's family?

Not really, mate. The ones we see have all the telling signs of not being hers but those of a "body double". The real ones we are allowed to look at are Emily Mortimer's (and how smashing they are!)

I think she looked okay for the role. Not all Asians have "squinty" eyes. I had a harder time believing that Bob Hoskins fathered either Jessica Alba or Emily Mortimer. Talk about zero resemblance to their dad!

I really don't see why a bunch of people think Jessica Alba can't act. I've seen quite a few of her movies and she is a very talented actress. This is my opinion of course, but I still can't see why many other people think she can't act.

I'm sorry, but Jessica Alba may be one of the worst actresses in Hollywood with a name. She and Dancy have next to no chemistry, and in every one of her film ventures she has no sense of dramatic inflection and her emotional dramatization doesn't go any deeper than the correct facial expression. The only reason she gets any work is because she's smokin' hot.

she does look kind of the part. I'm half indo/malay (my mum was from brunei, part of the island of borneo) and half white and i have a vague resemblance, but Jess is a bit darker and a much better actress then me.

I think she's a great girl, i haven't seen the movie though. She's one of those fun actresses that are good for summer movies etc, i'm looking forward to in the blue.
