such a massive cliché

the film starts at christmas in an american department store.....you know what you're going to get just from that.....this film was absolute trash, kate beckinsale and her english friend bumbling around....what if people actually believe that british women are all like this...??

reply

i did love the film, but i agree. as me and my friend watched it we both said, all americans think british women are like this and we so aren't. i mean we're from blackpool up north and just DONT speak like that. i mean, is that her real voice! it sounds like an american doign a british voice!!

reply

"all americans think british women are like this"
Not really, some of us do know better.

reply

Thats because accents from blackpool should certainly be nowhere near a million dollar blockbuster. There not endearing, sexy or sincere...

reply

yes, thats her real voice. shes from england.

reply

Yeah it's her real voice, ya boob. At least it's the same voice I've heard her use in all of the interviews I've seen her in.

Yeah...well, that's just like your opinion, man.

reply

Must Love Dogs was barely watchable, but John Cusack's short scenes were good! Maybe if there were more there it'd have been a better movie...

reply

Just watched this on TV. I know it's only a romcom (so I didn't expect great art or depth) but it turned out to be one of the most irritating, nauseating movies I've ever seen!
I've nothing against the actors per se (they've both done much better stuff). Bizarrely I watched it all the way to the end - I suppose I was hoping there would be something to redeem it. But no, it was just unadulterated garbage all the way through.
I understand that suspension of belief is necessary in film, and I've nothing against romance, but jeez this was so cringeworthy. Just awful saccharin bilge.

Uh ... what "English friend"? The Molly Shannon character wasn't British. The American accent should have been the tip-off.

reply

My thoughts exactly after reading the OP. Kate Beckinsale was the only English woman in the movie. And I don't think she was portrayed in a bad light. I'm American and can't say I developed any sort of impression of British women just from seeing Kate Beckinsale in this movie. Her character was a nice, pretty girl - nothing bad about that, or unique, really.

In person I've experienced British girls being very snobbish and over-the-top, and Kate Beckinsale helps my impression of British women in that regard. Note: the only British girls I've interacted with have been very rich ones at tropical resorts, so I'm sure that impression is not accurate to all British women.

reply

The movie was definitely a cliche!!!!!I loved watching Kate Beckinsale though.

The chick who had sex in her house with her boyfriend(or husband?) while she was in New York, is british. But such a film representation.
