Tbh, I don't know why I like Jess so damn much. He was a pretentious dick most of the time and I usually find the whole bad boy stereotype overdone and tedious.
But I loved Jess for some reason. The guy was a hot mess. I think I loved him more as a character than as a boyfriend for Rory (although I did like them together until his downward spiral towards the end of S3).
Mainly, I thought he had amazing chemistry with both Luke and Rory and brought out interesting sides in both of them. And I don't know how, but he managed to make me want to slap him one scene and totally sympathize with him the next. I liked that unpredictability.
I liked that while he came across as a "bad boy," as the show went along, he started to seem more like a guy who had no clue what he wanted or how to cope with his anger and played up the bad boy image as a shield. I wish we could've dove more into his mindset, which I assume the spin-off was intending to do, but oh well.
I do think S6 Jess had finally become healthy enough for a long-term relationship with Rory.
Anyway he was a total screw-up--but for me, he was an interesting, sympathetic screw-up, if that makes sense.
