Just watched the 4K UHD

I had some inhibitions about upgrading my F&F collection from BD to 4K, but the box set was only $60 on Amazon this week, so I went ahead with the purchase.

After popping in the 4K disc tonight, within minutes I was ecstatic with the video and especially the audio upgrades here. The colors are so much more vivid now, Brian's Eclipse, actually all the car paint jobs are popping out at me, making love to my eyeballs.

Upgrades don't always turn out well, I had my share of disappointments when upgrading from DVD to BD, so it can be hit or miss. But just judging by my first disc of this box set, I'm already happy with the purchase.

This film was shot on 35mm film which is much higher resolution than BD. If you are curious, look at the technical specifications on IMDB for the movie in question. If the movie was shot on film, 35mm or better, then a 4k scan will be much better than the BD. If it was shot with digital cameras like the Star Wars Prequel movies, then the BD is as good as it will ever get because digital cameras used for specifical effect heavy movies use 2k resolution. It is to make rendering the CGI at a reasonable cost. If the older movie was scanned from the original negatives in 4k and it used high quality film in the first place, it will look as good as any movie filmed today.
