Point of Angela Bassestt?

Can someone tell me what the point of Angela Bassestt was. I mean she was in the movie for about 15 mins all togther and she barely said a word. For such a good actress she deserved more. They should have used someone else if it was gonn be like that. However, aside from that I thought that this movie was ok. The whole actual robbery scene was worth watching it for. Everything else was mundane. As far as Bobby D is involved he can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. I love that man :)

I WANNA BE LIKE THOSE GIRLS IN THE MOVIES!

Although she doesn't have an active role in the movie, Diane (Angela Bassett) represents Nick's (Robert De Niro) future after he finishes his final score, as well as his redemption from a life of stealing valuable items.

This is my signature. Take it or leave it.

affirmative action my friend ;) lol no, she was in the movie to show the audience how much robert deniro likes black women

Yes, De Niro's affinity for black women and that Angela Basset, a strong black woman herself, was still in the limelight when the film was made. Too bad many of her scenes were cut from the finished product.

Objection, your Honor. You can't preface your second point with first of all.

She served as the love interest of the main character. The main character must always have a love interest and there must always be sex scenes or at least the allusion to sex scenes as in this film. There must always be at least one very attractive woman who takes her clothes off.

If Bassett were not in the film, the movie would just show a bunch of guys scheming on their next crime job to get more money. Who would want to watch old, nasty codgers on the screen for an hour and a half? With Bassett in the film, you break up the monotony of the male actors and the audience gets to look at an attractive woman for at least a few scenes.

Agreed, she was wasted. One poster said she had a lot of scenes left out of the final cut, so maybe there was more meat in her role originally. I still can't see how it would have helped when she wasn't part of the heist though--as others said, all that was needed was a love interest placeholder to make the movie plausibly more female friendly.

She was nominated for a academy award for this movie. Also, Bobby D has a fondness for black women...not that there's anything wrong with that.
