BEWARE: SPOILERS BELOW!
Arranged from God-Awful to Totally Awesome:
Halloween Resurrection - The means of resurrection couldn't be more asinine, Jamie gets offed in the very first scene, and a trash-talking Busta Rhymes brings down Michael with a bunch of judo kicks? Definitely the series ender I was hoping for. At least that bitch Tyra Banks got killed.
Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers - Apparently Michael is merely a henchman for a group of Occultists, and worse, he can be stopped dead in his tracks by simply placing a line of runes on the floor in front of him. How the hell did Paul Rudd's career ever manage to take off after this?
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - Better than its reputation, but not great. Too bad that man in black didn't turn out to be Johnny Cash.
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers - Pretty damn good. The mask looks a tad weird all clean with brushed hair, but maybe Michael felt compelled to have it dry-cleaned after waking from his coma. The big plot hole: Dr. Loomis shot out both of Michael's eyes at the end of Part II, so how can he see?
Halloween H20 - Ah, Halloween Water. It certainly has its problems, but mostly this is a worthy final chapter with a knockout finish. Like most fans, I consider this the last Halloween. That was Michael in the ambulance and Jamie did win the epic battle. Good triumphs over evil, fade to black.
Halloween II - Halloween II quickly recaptures the original's sense of dread and uses smart techniques to make it feel like the same night. Despite a larger body count, it never goes camp. Michael is terrifying as he stalks the hospital grounds for Jamie. Many scenes, as well as the ending, are unforgettable.
Halloween - Shocking choice, right? There's just no comparison to the original masterpiece. The simplistic realism of the characters and setting, the gradual escalation of fear and suspense, the inhenrent evil that is Michael Myers. This is the quintessential Halloween film and it still holds up beautifully after 36 years.
You'll notice I didn't bother to count Halloween III or the two Rob Zombie incarnations. Why? Because they don't belong on this list. Whether intended by the OP or not, this list is about Samhain and Michael Myers. Unrelated stories and painfully bad reimaginings have no place here.
