What 'A Christmas Carol' adaption do you like the best?

I like this one, and the muppets one purely because of Michael Cane :)

I can't narrow it down to one. I like this one, the one with George C. Scott, the 1971 animated version (very scary), the musical version with Albert Finney, and the American version with Henry Winkler (never on TV anymore).

shannondaly1, I am in complete agreement with you. This one and the Muppet version. :D

I like this one along with the latest Jim Carrey Christmas Carol...

A Muppet Christmas Carol. Despite many of the key character being played by Muppets, it all works, and is one of the most loyal adaptions of the of the story.

The 1951 version with Alistair Sim is the best.

The Scott, Stewart, Carrey and Muppets versions were also good, though.

reply

Definitely this one! The Jim Carrey one isn't too bad..and the Muppet's one is cute!
But this is no doubt my favorite version. =)

"The world isn't split into good people and death eaters."

reply

I like this version but I also second the 1971 animated version. The producers were surely on acid when they made that one.

reply

I love the 1951 version with Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge.

reply

I like this one very much but my favorite is Albert Finney as "Scrooge".

reply

Mine too!

reply

It's on DVD and Blu-Ray, too.

reply

I have seen a few adaptations and I enjoy this one the most, I am not sure why really. It just makes me feel the most festive :)

The force will be with you always...

I think this is the best Christmas Carol movie, however Alistair Sim was the best Scrooge. I do agree that the Muppet Christmas Carol is probably the most faithful to the book, but it's a little too "Muppety" for me.

No love for Mickey's Christmas Carol?

reply

Very nice usage of the character placement, with Goofy as Marley and Pete as Future.

Flintstones Christmas Carol is very wretching, slipping in and out of being a play (which Magoo did, but much better) and then tying on the really bad sub-plot of Fred being Santa Claus, which was the plot of the much-better Christmas episode from the '60s show.

There's also the Bugs Bunny Christmas Carol, a '70s effort with Tweety Pie as Tiny Tim. Oh, no.

Many people see Scrooge as a George C Scott type ofcalculating, deliberately malicious miser. Finney plays him as one who has merely slipped into bad habits through making wrong decisions which is, in my opinion, the more accurate portrayal as far as the book is concerned.I'm glad someone else likes him as well. Michael Hordern also reads him like this in the 1977 BBC version.

I always make a point of looking out to watch this version every year and I also love Scrooged with Bill Murray
