Totally Different Movie After Mel's Arrest

Mel Gibson's comments after being arrested for a DUI really changed this whole movie for me. Before, I thought it was a harmless enough comedy but now all I see is a alcoholic anti-Semite pretending to be cute. Christian Bale likes to keep his private life private because he says knowing too much about an actor detracts from what an actor is trying to do, become another person.

He is right.

Whatever his personal beliefs, very few actors could have pulled off this role, being a man's man as well as being able to act completely goofy, and being entirely believable in both. He probably got nowhere near an Oscar nomination, but should have. This is the kind of performance that the Academy routinely ignores. Steve Martin in All of Me would be another example.
