Typical 90's depressing grunge

I'm not saying the series is bad but it's the same crap we got throughout the 90's grunge phase. Oh! Vampires, depression, dystopian, sadness, dark, dirty, grimy, slow paced... boring! I can't watch this without my brain and soul hurting, it's not worth it.

Vampires

Are we watching the same show?

And I don't know how you got "slow paced" out of Farscape.

It's certainly an arc and character development-heavy drama similar to other genre TV shows of the time like Buffy and X Files, but I think it's actually a really unique product for the time it was made in. Shouldn't the fact that it has color, enthusiasm, beautiful fantasy worlds, lots of humor, and even puppets preclude it from being "grungy"? Yes, it has dark and frightening elements, but it marries them with a positive and adventurous let's-go-explore-strange-new-worlds spirit that reminds me of classic Doctor Who and Star Trek of the '60s-'70s. Does that make those shows "grungy"? I didn't notice any flannel in them...

High fives and corporate anthems, nothing comes to mind.

If I had to guess, I would guess that they got "slow paced" from the stupidly slow pace of the show.

If I were to guess.

You don't seem to have watched it correctly.

Or, you know, it just isn't a show for that person. That's the more likely scenario, dick hole.

Just might be the funnest and most hilarious scifi series of all time.

No, it's really not.

WORDS MEAN THINGS! Also, before you come to bitch about a plot hole, rewatch the show/movie.

Even critics said that Farscape is a very unique show that combines drama, action and comedy! Slow paced? No. Dirty??? Hmmm no

Dirty???

Well, maybe he has a point there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkJ5CKcpJwo

How much of it did you watch? There are certainly elements of darkness throughout, but there's also quite a bit of humor that you might have missed if you've only seen a few select episodes here and there.

As far as it being slow/boring, I had a lot of difficulty with season 1 when I first saw it. There were many times where I wanted to bang my head and so pushing ahead was a chore. However, toward the end of the season everything came together story-wise and it remained a fairly consistent ride that I found extremely enthralling from that point on. So if you started watching season 1 and gave up part way through, I don't blame you for thinking of the show as boring. However, I went from not liking it, to it becoming one of my all time favorite shows as, once I got over that hump, it became something that, to me, was amazing.

I don't even know if you have watched the whole show or are judging it based on select parts that you've seen. If the latter, you may still not like the show after you've seen more of it because everyone is different, but I would refrain judgement if this is the case, especially if you gave up part way into season 1 - Farscape is one of those shows that took awhile to find its way.

Hearing that it gets better after the first season is good. I gave up 3/4 of the way through the first season as I just lost complete interest. I was really liking it at first but I just couldn't bother to continue. I've been considering picking the show back up lately and after reading your comment, I'm that much closer.

reply

It took me a few years to get through the first season. Took a few weeks to get through the rest :)

I think that if you're invested in the characters and the humour then it's quite easy to overlook a bit of Season 1's slow pace.

reply

Depression, sadness, slow pacing? It's an action, adventure, comedy series. It's like Star Wars with more jokes and pop culture references. What did you watch?

reply

I'm with 'VlsraWratS' (sorry if I got the UN wrong) on this one: 'Farscape' can be hard work when you first come into it (I only watched it on a regular basis because my ex was obsessed with it) BUT- it's deffo worth the time invested.
I found it to be funny, colourful, bonkers and just plain old eccentric!
Good luck- it reminds me of the 'Buffy' series: took me a while to get into but I fell in love with it despite myself.

I would definitely give this another chance. You don't seem to have watched it correctly. Generally, it's the exact opposite of those things. Just might be the funnest and most hilarious scifi series of all time.

Are you sure you weren't watching CW?

Like others have replied I also had a hard time learning to like this show, and even now I don't consider it the greatest science fiction ever put on the screen. It's just difficult to fit your words to Farscape. Some of the words fit some parts of some episodes, but overall the series seems to be almost the opposite.

Maybe we both caught part of a single episode that turned us away from the show. It's the reason I took so long to give the series a try and then when I got to the part I'd watched before, it wasn't as bad as it seemed.

I like the show but I certainly agree that it is depressing and creepy a lot of the times. The characters are pretty inconsistent and they act very weirdly a lot of times. And I'm not even talking about the obvious alien aspect of it. When I'm not in the right mood to watch it, it does disturb me. So I get what the OP is saying.

What the hell does any of that have to do with grunge?
