The dumbest line I have ever heard...

I really liked this film, but this is one line that really irritates me. I'm not sure if this subject has already been discussed.

When Thomas is trying on the soldier uniform his father (Gibson) tells him "Not yet, 17." Thomas says "But father that's two years, its already been two, THE WAR COULD BE OVER BY THEN."

Gibson should have responded "THATS A GOOD THING YOU STUPID MORON."

I understand the boy is a patriot, but does he think of war as a fun event that cannot be missed? Even if the war is not over by then, what makes him think that ONLY HE can make that big of a difference? The war could be over?? YEAH GOD-WILLING

I liked the movie but unfortunately it contains 2 lines that are some of the lamest in movie history.

1st is when Col. Tavington kills his son at his house, and looks right at the camera and says "stupid boy". It's like, gee let me guess, he's the bad guy? Such amateur writing. If he had simply rode away without saying a thing thats all that needed to happen, and thats how it would really happen. He'd give the order and leave. That line literally pisses me off its such stupid writing.

2nd is near the end when the white racist guy tells the black guy something like "i'd fight next to you and die next to you anytime" Again so amateur. You are fighting next to him, and probably gonna die next to him. We get it, he's come full circle, great. Use some friggen imagination and have him risk his life to save the black guy. Do it through action, not words, that would be powerful. Using dialog to tell stories is totally lame and amateur writing.

Those 2 lines literally lower the entire movie in my mind as I cannot get them out of my head whenever I see this. It should be such a great movie but it's not. Its dialog is amateur. Small subtleties are what make a movie like Braveheart one of the greatest, and this movie just pretty good.
