What happened to Sara Goldfarb?

Seeing as she became addicted to uppers and the psychosis that results, does this really happen to people this bad? Could someone clarify the ending: would Sara be able to recover once she gets over her withdrawal, or did she get permanently messed up? Can one get permanently messed up to this extent from uppers with no chance of recovery?

I believe it’s implied she was permanently altered from the medication. She was in an already mentally fragile and vulnerable psychological state, so the medication acted as a catalyst to push her over the edge, something of a dissociative disorder if I had to guess.

Possibly but probably not. Going from craving a cookie to being Phillip Dick level of spun out in a few months seemed as contrived as an anti drug campaign from the 80s where smoking a joint means you'll be shooting up heroin within the calendar year.

Her side story was the worst part of the movie, no contest. I get that they were trying to include a condition that non street drug users might relate to, and fitting with the theme the character also needed some substance to be entrapped by, but it frankly sucks ass and a cut without all those scenes would make for a better movie.
