a small detail I just noticed that bugs me
If Colonel Fitts is so strict and paranoid that he makes Ricky do regular drug screenings, and with his hatred of locked doors, I don't see Ricky realistically being able to get away with keeping clean urine in the unlocked mini-fridge in his room. Not to mention that Ricky and Jane are later smoking pot in his room. I feel like the Colonel doesn't have a job, and doesn't spend much time out of the house. Same for the mom but she's in her own little world. And the smell of weed will travel down the house to someone who hates it and doesn't use it or want it around and is on the lookout. I feel like if the Colonel walked in on Ricky and Jane, Ricky would be dead and maybe Jane too, and he has to know that, so it's incredibly stupid and risky. Or maybe he'd only be horribly beaten, since his dad after all didn't kill him for being gay which is likelier a worse offense in the Colonel's eyes. Plus, if the Colonel mistrusts him so much, why isn't he on an even tighter leash? Picked up after school, driven to and from work and his work being more monitored. Either way, now that I've noticed it just feels a bit inconsistent, is the Colonel a strict parent or not? I guess he's not really a helicopter parent, maybe just wants Ricky to choose "right" on his own, but still surprisingly ignorant over what's actually going on under his own roof.
Also I've realized Lester and Carolyn remind me of the parents in Daria.
