How well is this movie going to age now

Now that American Beauty is just a movie about the timeline where Kevin Spacey doesn't go full pedo. Frankly i thought this movie aged badly even before finding out spacey like to tickle little boys in the no no parts. It was just a bunch of pretentious drivel.

Spacey was cleared of the charges.

When someone that famous and wealthy is accused and then cleared, the public will never know if the accusations had merit or if it was a shakedown.

I agree with you on the pretentiousness of this movie...that weird floating bag speech the video/artist gave is kinda funny.

reply

Regardless of Spacey's involvement, I think it tapped into something that a lot of middle-class Americans felt at the time so everyone went nuts over it. Now that time has come and gone, perhaps it won't have the same impact for younger viewers.

reply

All movies age. I never understood why people are always surprised that they do so.

reply

I guess they expect a 1999 movie to reflect 2020 concerns. Kinda dumb.

reply

Agreed! These "This hasn't aged well" and/or "Will this movie age well" posts are just plain stupid and ridiculous.

reply

I'm still scared of the lion in Wizard of Oz, oh my.

movie still seems fine on my Blu-Ray. is it supposed to rot or something?

the film is still good. does the plot change over time? I'm thinking it stays the same. I still think it is really great. great characters and actions.

Society's values change over time, and we sometimes learn troubling things about actors or writers or directors.
But that doesn't mean artistic projects from the past should be canceled. Just remember that they came from a different time.

reply

It literally makes no difference. This movie was always about a grown man lusting after a teenage girl. That didn't age, it's always been wrong. The fact that the woke morons think it's different says a lot more about their warped views, than this movie. Nothing has changed. If you are offended now, you should've been offended back then.

reply

The movie is a not-so-subtle critique to the usamerican society. Little has changed in it, so it aged just fine. Maybe the lack of cellphones makes it to look outdated, but that's the only thing.

reply

This was an extremely overrated film, even back in the day

reply

It's one of the greatest movies of all time. The problem is when you only see a pointless story about Spacey being immature and fantasizing with a teenage girl.

reply

Last time I checked, Spacey was found not guilty of this, but of course, in the Court of social media, you're found guilty right off the bat, right??
