Why do so many people think that Angela was a virgin?

Why do so many people think that Angela was a virgin? When I saw the movie I thought Angela was a nonvirgin because she said she had sex with the photographer and told Thora that she told her about all the guys she slept with. I thought she told Lester she was a virgin so he would enjoy it more because some guys like doing it with virgins.

Look at it this way, if Angela was lying to Lester about her virginity to make him more attracted to her, shouldn't she then be somewhat upset when Lester changes his mind? Instead, she appears relieved and thankful. If it was all a ploy to get Lester more turned on, I would expect a different reaction.

That's an interesting theory. But I don't think THAT is ambiguous. It isn't true that a lot of guys prefer virgins and they were on the couch. Plus, if she really was the little lolita she was pretending to be, she would have told him the "truth" when he stopped because she would probably want to do her friend's father. I think it was the pretty clearly lolita-esque Angela that was the act.

Yeah that´s hot, specially when you blurt it out in the middle of the undressing part. When he was taking off her top it was obviously very sexually tense for both of them, so talking at that moment just killed the mood. If she wanted to entice him about the virgin thing she would have told him before they started doing it, and in a sexy voice, the way she had spoken to him before. Her voice then was the least sexy thing ever, it sounded child-like to me. She said it as a warning, she said she was sorry and she thought she was going to suck at it. So definitely NOT a lolita act. This is just not true. This whole post is a bad assumption.

And by the way WHO likes doing it with virgins?!?!?! The only guys I know that like that are troglodites that think of women as things and they take the first time as planting a fraiken flag on a mountain. Gob said it best: Come on!

Excellent post, thank you for sharing. I agree 100%. I too don't see how anyone could think that Angela was putting on an act and wasn't actually a virgin. As a female who was once a young virgin, I can say with much certainty that any young girl who is still a virgin is going to react to a situation like that in pretty much the same way Angela did. Mena Suvari's acting at that point of the film was spectacular.
