Why do so many people think that Angela was a virgin? When I saw the movie I thought Angela was a nonvirgin because she said she had sex with the photographer and told Thora that she told her about all the guys she slept with. I thought she told Lester she was a virgin so he would enjoy it more because some guys like doing it with virgins.
Well each viewer has two choices, eh? Either to believe what Angela was saying to her friends earlier, or to believe what she told Lester when he was undressing her.
There is nothing else in the movie to draw you to one or the other. So believe what makes you happy, it makes no difference to the overall story. It only matters what Lester thought and did as a result of Angela's revelation to him, even if it were false.

She had always wanted to be treated as special. By saying that she's a virgin, she makes herself different from other girls(considering that it is a valuable? feature to some).
Or, as I think of it right now, she could have bluffed about having sex to Jane with details to impress her...
Hmm, I guess seeing that the girl who has been lying to make herself special has become honest in the end of the movie to someone who sees the beauty in her is a more hopeful view.
that's definitely an interesting perspective. It never crossed my mind that she might have been making up the whole virgin thing just so he could fantasize about her and want her more. And this would totally be more consistent with her personality.
You have no idea about sex so rely on the opinion of "some guy" so that is hearsay, but you want US to believe she was not a frigid virgin [as shown] based on that, when everything we KNOW about gals says she was a wergen
I can't believe people are taking the weird per vert view instead of reality that people in school lie about their experiences to impress their friends.
It was fairly obvious that all that talk about sex with photographers & such was typical teenage lying. Girls that age do that all the time, all the time. Teen boys certainly do as well!
Angela spent the whole film just trying to put Jane down, so she could feel superior.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus. Didn't he discover America? Penfold, shush.
I agree that Angela was trying to turn Lester on even more, since she already was aware of the affect she had on him and his desire to want a young girl (Which is perfectly ok in my opinion, but I'm a liberal by nature) so mentioning the virgin line increased that desire. I once had a girl tell me she never had an older man before after I took her to the movies and kissed her. Just a young lady's way in trying to make a guy feel special.
I think that she was a virgin because she told Lester that it was her first time. He couldn't bring himself to have sex with her, because he had a strong moral core, despite any faults that he had.
Her boasting about sexual exploits were lies, her character certainly was insecure about herself, and she interpreted maturity as being sexually experienced.
"If you love Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it copy this and make it your signature!"
Because she clearly was. When it got down to it, she was afraid and nervous, and that's why she blurted it out. She was relieved when he stopped, you could tell in the kitchen all of a sudden she was acting like a normal kid. Her acting made that quite obvious. All of the talk of sex was boasting, a role she was putting on.
Personally I think it was pretty obvious that she was just making up stories to try to make her friend think she was far more experienced than she truly was. She was a virgin. You could see how nervous she was while Lester was seducing her, and how relieved she was when he stopped. Kids make up stories about sexual exploits all the time. They don't want to appear inexperienced in front of friends and other peers. We all know boys exaggerate, but girls do it just as much. They want to appear older, more sophisticated, more attractive, they want others to think they are "wanted" by the opposite sex.
Well that interpretation was my initial one too! Then I read a lot of people saying that she was telling the truth, so I changed my mind. But when I first watched the movie, that was my initial conclusion too, that she tried to make things more exciting for the guy, and it completely turned him off.
