5.1 for females under 18

5.1 is the average vote for females under 18 on this movie, every other age group gave this film a pretty high rating. I wonder why it is so low with females under 18. Go look what kind of ratings they gave movies like Pearl Harbor and Secret Window though.

it's down to 2.8 now but there are only 49 votes from females under 18 from 20000+ votes overall, so i don't think it's having too much effect on the overall score.

why have so few female under 18s seen the movie? I'd guess maybe it's something to do with the subject matter... an old guy on a tractor. I doubt if that's going to do it for most young girls.

If you look at the votes for most films that would be deemed classics, or cinematic masterpieces, rather than just popcorn flicks, females under 18 rate nearly every one of them lower than any other demographic. I'm determined that females under 18 simply don't want to have to THINK during a film and are in it to stare at some "hottie" rather than enjoy a classic work of film. End of story, with very few exceptions.

Low female teenagers grades are really common among supposedly cult movies. I opened a thread to Sideways just like this one. Sad.

Am I the only one that couldn't care less about the IMDB 250? It's a popularity contest and nothing more. By all means no indication of real quality.

I'm a huge Lynch fan and saw this film for the first time last night. It is now one of my favourite films, and easily my favourite Lynch film.

I am a 20 year old female but I think I can honestly say had I seen this two years ago it still would've hit me the same way it did last night. Simply beautiful story, flawless acting. I'm not ashamed to admit I let a few tears roll :-)

It saddens me to see that 18 year old girls have been rating this one so low, but as a previous user said, the 250 really isn't a great indication of quality. The general public are wrong about a lot of things, and this should be applied to the top 250 aswell.

This film is a masterpiece in my opinion. If stupid young girls don't like this film then it's their loss. Maybe in time they will begin to appreciate films like this, instead of basing their enjoyment of a film on an attractive male lead.

oh man, The Secret Window? what a piece of garbage that was

I think it's about time we (IMDB's regular users) started lobbying the site admins and IMDB staff to restrict anyone under the age of 18 from rating films.

Honestly, this is one of the only professional websites that I have seen where statistics are even taken on what underage children think or believe.

If they won't overhaul their ratings system, then they should split the vote, kind of like they do for 'top 1000' voters, which I think would lessen the impact/weight that the children's votes carry.

Obviously the best outcome would be to allow them to keep their right to vote, but at the same time, stop their vote from meaning anything as far as movie ranking, but implementing something like that would be complicated, hence my 'vote' to take away their ability to vote completely.

Anyone agree/disagree?

Not even one hundred females under the age of eighteen years have cast a vote for this film (right now, it's fifty-nine). I don't know how much we ought to read into the number. That said, does "The Straight Story" really strike anyone as a movie intended for that demographic? Really?

Ugh, you actually liked "Mulholland Drive"?

Yes. Really.

Not specifically them of course, but I think this movie is for 'everyone'. They would fall into that category.

It's not like males under 18 are any more mature...
