Scorsese's most underrated movie?

Traditionally After Hours gets that label, but at this point so many people are queueing up to wax lyrical about how underrated After Hours is that it it's not actually all that underrated any more.

This one on the other hand kind up slipped under the radar and I believe still hasn't gotten it's due. It's a haunting, hypnotic lucid dream of a movie.

I agree with you. I've seen BOTD at the cinema and it's been the very first DVD I bought in 1999 (I remember it was the Summer of the total eclipse over Europe). I've watched it a couple of times since then and from what I remember it shows some truth about mankind, ie about who and what we really all are: being born, talking, crying, messing up and dying little pathetic creatures.
Without the humour the film would be as unbearable as real life, which is a lesson in itself: let yourself go into humour and laughter, and be helpful to your fellow human beings.
It's a minor film from Scorsese, like After Hours that I enjoy a lot too. Though I really don't care much about King of Comedy, but maybe one day...

It is very true. I used to think The King of Comedy was really underrated, but it has gotten a lot of recognition and acclaim from Scorsese nuts like myself and it shouldn't really be classified as that anymore. This, on the other hand, has not gotten a lot of acclaim and I've never seen any other movie like this. Even I forget about it sometimes and it's great. Classic underrated Scorsese.

Every rewatch brings it closer to being my favorite Scorsese film, period.

It was a bit slow in places but I liked this movie. Nicolas Cage was excellent. 6.8 is too low.

Probably in the top 10 of all time best movies.

After Hours is a movie that taught in film departments at the academy and this one not - so it's another reason why Bringing Out the Dead is underrated and After Hours no more.
