… to realize Shatner’s true calling was comedy?

From this movie came … Denny Crane, then history.
It seems now to be so obviously integral to his persona — how did everyone miss it for so long?

There’s a very funny four-minute clip on YouTube of Howard Stern and Robin marveling at Shatner’s passive-aggressive skill in mocking — perfectly — a producer trying to tell him how to do a voice-over. It should be in the Library of Congress.

This movie came out in 1999.

Shatner did Airplane 2 in 1982. Wasn't that a high-profile release? Did nobody realize it then?

1998, actually.
But he had already had a multi-decade career by then.

Airplane 2 was a flop hardly anyone saw.
Those that did have forgotten it, or are trying to.
