What's with the vampire teeth?

Interesting TV movie. There were a number of things that never got explained, and I'm willing to accept that to an extent but they pushed it a bit. Like, why does the first victim (old piano lady) get killed?

I found the first 1/3 suspenseful, the second 1/3 was a bit repetitive (like hell) and predictable unfolding of deaths (all overly foreshadowed), and then the last 1/3 got interesting again with Linoge's escape from the jail onward. The lighthouse falling over was a nice touch.

I thought for sure that "what he wanted" was for the townspeople to basically come clean and admit to their rampant lies and misdeeds, to one another.
~~~As an aside, if you're a supernatural being, is growing pot something you're going to get bent out of shape over?~~
Anyways, on to my question...whenever they showed the vampire teeth/hissing I was sort of confused, like "is he supposed to be a vampire? why else would he have those?" but they never really go into that aspect beyond the baring of the teeth (thankfully imo he's more interesting as a shadowy demi-god or warlock). In any other movie about vampires, they're always dealing with their need for blood.
Perhaps he's a psychic vampire and the mindgames he's inducing the people through is a form of energy parasitism. We see some people resist his mental suggestions, while others fall prey to them, so maybe the people who give in are somewhat drained of energy/soul when they do so.
Or maybe he's just a demon (demons have pointy teeth sometimes right?).
When Ralphie did the teeth thing at the end it made me think of a prequel to an Anne Rice book. Any theories?
You know I always thought after watching this movie that every one hundred years the demon linoge comes to get a new child.He has to pass on his many demons in a new body and he dies.So I thought the old lady he killed was one of the children picked when it was his time to go with the demon.
No offense, but I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.
Where did you get the this "everyone one hundred years" number?
Where did you get the idea that he comes to get a "new" child every 100 years?
Where did you get the idea that he passes on demons in a new body (which new body are you refering to?) and dies? Its clear from Linoge's statements that he is THOUSANDS of years old, and that even though he may look old to them in 1989, he states that he is dying, but only in a sense of perception as we are all dying, some just more quickly than others. He states that he will still be around long after their children have perished, which may be another 70 years, and while that is a long time for humans, as it pertains to his lifespan, it is nothing.
Basically Linoge could be 6,000 year old demon that has a lifespan of, say 8,000 years or so. While having another 2,000 years left may seem like an eternity to a human, to him, he is nearing his mortality.
Finally, there is connection between the old lady that he killed and this link you are making to children. He basically killed her because of her age and seemingly innocent and harmless nature. Linoge killing her makes him appear heartless, cruel, and willing to punish anyone, regardless of their innocense. This was extremely important in how the people perceived him, and that he would definitely have no problem killing the children. Also, as an above poster said, he needed to start off with someone, and she was the most effective.
I meant every on hundred years or once a century.I kind of thought that because the older lady seemed to know something like he had been there before.Now I havent seen this movie in a while so im not 100% sure on this part.
But I got the idea that he got to go somewhere isolated every one hundred years during his final"years" as he said he is getting old and dying and try to take a child to pass some of his demons onto.I got the idea that he passes demons into others because of the biblical story.
I wouldn't put human years on that. The bible talks about people who live many more life time than we do now. However, Legion said that the child selected will be alive many years after you all are dead and gone. And even after the boy who reported the first murder-after his children were gone. He said that in the town hall.
The old lady was a product of lust. Conceived in lust and born in sin. He said that to her and killed her. His power was in attacking sinners.
Why would you think that? He was announcing their misdeads and lies. Why would he care about them coming clean or not?
And he wasn't bent out of shape over the pot. He was simply revealing that secret to cause mistrust among the Islanders. Like with all his revelations about the Islanders.
He's not a vampire, he's just some unknown supernatural entity and that's the most obvious way to show it.
If he were a demon then he would be immortal, and he states very clearly that he is not.
The first 90 minutes was pretty good, then it just fell apart. There were too many things left to loose ends (why kill the old lady? why keep bringing up Robbie's mother turning into a cannibal? the deaths didn't really make any sense, and especially the girl killing her boyfriend. they all seemed random and arbitrary.)
What did the lighthouse falling over have to do with anything? Croatoan didn't make any sense either. If they had completely omitted that word and just said, "all the residents disappeared," and the group dream happened, it would have been just as effective. It seemed like a pointless mess after Linoge escaped the jail. I was disappointed because I saw the first installment and it was good.
