Anybody else believe this was one of the most unfairly reviewed movies?

Of all movies critics disliked but "average Joes" enjoyed(Man on Fire, Suicide Kings, The Punisher, Spider-Man 3) this one was the most shockingly disliked. I personally thought that this movie was excellent and I just don't understand why it was so horribly reviewed. Does anybody else think it's panning was unfair?

Most of the Saw films are garbage in my opinion(Except 1,2, and 6) and they weren't nearly as disliked. Anybody else agree?

Completely agree. This is a GREAT movie, and even though a lot of people hate Cage, he's great in this, and truly.. "the devil changes you." It's evident in the second half of the film, especially the Hollywood Hills scene with Eddie, and calling Mrs. Matthews just before that.

AWESOME scene, awesome film. Saw it in the theater... own the DVD. Totally rules.

My husband (fiance' @ the time) & I tried to see this in the theater. We went to the theater, & the movie was gone after being there only 2 days. We just wanted to see it more b/c of that. I bought it as soon as it was on sale. Its a great movie dealing w a dark plot. The critics are full of sh*t.

I loved this movie, it was so dark. I think that the fact that is to strong people disliked it, but it was really interesting and disturbing to think that the world is that *beep*

Just watched this last night for the second time. I first saw it in the theaters a while ago. I agree - very good movie.

As disturbing as it was the first time around back in the day, I didn't think watching it this time was as bad. Not to say it wasn't hard to watch, but I noticed a lot of the violence and brutality of the subject matter was implied. It's not like we actually saw much on screen except for the brutal snuff film in the beginning.

I agree. The story is good (with some flaws). And all of the performances were top notch across the broad. Peter Stormare was especially great as Dino. All of his scenes really helped the second half of the movie.

I'm glad you all agree with me that this movie was good, or a at least, not horrible. It really does boggle my mind that critics downright hated it though.

AGREE!!! Loved it despite the darkness of the storyline. Great acting. I gave it a 9. I was surprised by the low rating but not by Rotten Tomatoes. They often give low scores. I take no notice of RT ratings because they are crap.

Spider-Man 3? I don't know one "average joe" who doesn't think that movie sucks.

Couldn't agree more, very good movie and very disturbing.

Well, you've just met one online... sort of. I personally know a lot of people that enjoy that movie.

I seem to recall this film falling foul of a cultural movement of the time. It was seen as a very mainstream film pushing the boundaries of sexual violence. Certain critics will have hated it because of their prudishness, but many others saw it as a cheap stunt and turned on it. Then the rest jumped on that bandwagon.

The reality is that it's fairly tame in graphic content, and doesn't go nearly as dark as some films do. What's left, though, is a really well-handled grim thriller that plunges into the world of porn - something that Hollywood is still terrified of.

Actually I think it had around a 30%, the plot however, I thought was pretty good.

This movie is quite good, I think the critics struggled with the topics and content in the film and judged harshly because of it.

Great performances from Gandolfini, Phoenix and Stormare and that final scene with Machine has you on the edge of your seat and is very intense and creepy.

The whole movie is very dark and uncomfortable to sit through because of the subject matter and it just feels gritty and dirty watching it.

Unfairly and harshly judged by the critics who as most people think got it wrong on this one.
