artsy pile of trash

hate movies like this.

This isn't even an "artsy" movie really, well-made for sure but it's not like it's an arthouse film. Great review by the way, I'm sure many will take note of it.

Your review was enthralling. You have such a way with words. Which newspaper do you write for?

Well what are the use of my brains if I'm tied up with a dumb cluck like you?

The scenery was good, I thought.

How can you go wrong with the coast of Italy and it's environs as your backdrop?

I hate pretentious artsy movies too, Gerry for example, but I didn't get that vibe from this at all. The emotions and character motivations felt extremely realistic, and the story telling felt very straightforward. Jealous of a rich good looking guy, the disgust with how Marge just rolls over lets him bang her on the boat after what a creep he had been, made to feel like a pathetic leech by Freddie, the panic when the friend says they're sending some cop up from Rome. Real stuff people can relate to shown in a very linear clean-cut fashion, that's not arts. It's just straight-forward film making. Perhaps the end was a little artsy though, I didn't really buy the character's actions in the final scenes.

I disagree on one point. On the boat, Marge went below deck deliberately as a sexual invitation to Dickie, to remind him that she had something his male friends couldn't give him. She too had been left out since Freddie's arrival.

reply

I don't really see how it's artsy besides the beautiful scenery. The plot is too solid for it to be artsy.

Thank you, mymovies125. Very true.

I`m sorry for my lack of manners, but I`m not used to escorting men.

Read the novel then, since this movie is based on the book by Patricia Highsmith.

A very thorough review by the way.
