I WAS CHECKING MIRANDA RICHARDSON'S PROFILE (QUEEN MAB), AND UNDER HER FILM CREDITS THERE IS A MOVIE TITLED "Merlin's Apprentice" FILMING FOR 2005!!!! IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THIS PLEASE LET ME KNOW!?!
It, is in fact listed on Sam Neill's profile that he is in "post-production" for the film "Merlin's Apprentice" and there is a page for said sequel, although it doesn't have many details. In my experiance IMDB tends to be fairly accurate on these things but you never know for sure if a TV movie is gonna happen until it appears on the screen. I'm hoping for the best...the original "Merlin" movie has always been on of my guilty pleasures.
They don't call me funny for nothing...wait I called myself that...
my pleasure! if that 'thank you' was for me that is...
by the way, i couldn't help stopping by your profile at imdb and i must say you've got an exeptionally good taste in actors! and while i was at it i sneaked a peak at your homepage at well and you seem to have a good taste in a lot of other things as well! i mean; bauhaus! loved your 'alternative punk' cartoon! i run a goth/darkwave club in oslo, norway, and know exactly the kind of people you're refering to! not that they ever come into my club, of course, but.... ;o)
i don't really know what to expect form the 'merlin' sequel, though... it didn't seem too promising, judging from it's homepage. but what the hell; the first movie was propably the most beautiful and poetic movie version of the arthur ledgends i've ever watched! it was moving, funny and filled with pathos without ever becoming silly or pretentious. in many ways it reminded me of 'the once and future king' by t.h. white, the definitive retelling of the arthur mythos! i highly recommend it, unless you've read it allready, which wouldn't surprise me.
well, take care now! it's nice to meet one of the sidhe! reminds me of a poem:
Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
and it's nice to meet one! even though i'm not celtic (i'm teutonic/norwegian), the celts are our neighbours both geographically and culturally and i know some of the basics of celtic mythology. furhermore i'm a writer on the history of religion and culture so i kinda ought to know a little about it... but it's allways fascinating to encounter someone like you with both knowledge and personal interest (i guess) in the old cultures and traditions.
and we shouldn't worry to much about the next 'merlin' movie. after all they've tried to make sequels (at least as books) of such great movies as 'casablanca' and 'gone with the wind'. and even though the sequels were abysmal they didn't ruin the originals. and whatever the new movie is like and even though i'm a grown man, some scenes from 'merlin' will allways make my eyes run over (and as usual i'll blame my contacts!)like the final dialouge between morgan and frik (remember?):
- Am I beautiful, my love? - Beyond words. Am I? - Oh yes. Beyond words
oh, swedish are we! as you may know there is this rivallery between swedes and norwegians in scandinavia, but very friendlly, mind you! like many norwegians i'm part swedish my self. and like most norwegians i just love the irish! i've been enthralled by celtic and irish culture for years and years and one of my favorite hangouts in oslo is 'the dubliner', the only genuine irish pub in oslo, run by irish. if you ever happen to be in oslo you should pop round. but be warned; i sing there from time to time!
ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!!! THAT WAS THE WORST VERSION I'VE EVER SEEN I ABSOLUTELY HATE THAT MOVIE IT WAS JUST PLAIN THE WORST I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY MADE A SEQUAL FOR THAT PIECE OF JUNK
Sequel? Lets hope they don't play with it too much...although I would like a more acurate portrayl of the Tuatha De Danaan the uses of Magic but oh well, what can you do?
I saw this sequel a short time ago, it's not as good as it could have been, the storyline continuity got messed up a bit, but my guess is if you're a Merlin/King Arthur fantasy lover then you'd like this sequel.
I have watched Merlin's Apprentice and did not like it. First off, Sam Neill was in it for all of about 2 minutes, don't lead yourself on that he's a star in the movie. Secondly, the movie was just pretty iffy altogether (actors, filming, 'special effects').
It doesn't ruin the first movie, that's impossible. I love the first movie and always will, even if they make a billion terrible sequels, it never CHANGES the first movie.
So anyway, all of you who havn't seen it I just want to say don't expect much, it's nothing like Merlin :)
Just watching Merlins apprentice and I have to say it's hiddeous. It has absolutely none of the mystery and atmosphere of the first, none of the quirkiness.
It looks as if most of it has been shot in a studio, what a sham. It has the feel of a cheap tv movie.
If you haven't seen it and love the original don't bother with this it will be a huge disappointment.
i mean this sequal was just rubbish i cannot believe i let myself sit there and watch this rubbish for 3 and a half hours. I love both Sam Neill and Miranda Richardson what a waste of talent. It was like the whole story didnt follow on maybe it just wasnt meant to be a sequel????. It was as if the Merlin Sam Neill was playing in this film was a completely different Merlin he was playing in the first.
Yes, the so-called "sequel" doesn't really make it as a sequel. For instance, at the beginning, Arthur (not played by the original actor) is somehow still alive when Merlin wanders off to go to sleep. Nimue apparently doesn't exist, and neither does Frik. The Lady of the Lake appears to have had her character conflated with that of Mab and had her pretty white ghostly look taken away. She also has no reason to act as she does. In short, the only way in which it can be termed a "sequel" is the return of Sam Neill and Miranda Richardson. But it really is not worth watching, even though Sam Neill pulls off a stellar performance as usual.
