Were we supposed to take this movie literally, or, to some extent, can it be seem as a metaphor, but for what?
Contains MAJOR SPOILERS, don't read if you want to see the film.
Hi, was wondering, to those of us who have seen this movie, do you think we are meant to take and interpret everything that happens in it literally, even if it is mostly a very good albeit a little silly black comedy crime thriller, or is a lot of it meant to be taken as a metaphor in similar ways that we can, perhaps, detect symbolism and metaphors in a lot of movies, but also movies of Tarantino, David Lynch, the Coen Brothers etc, a lot of which I to some extent while watching this movie got reminded of.
For example, in the opening scene, would it really happen that way in life, with that sales foreign lady in a coffee shop protesting so much and pestering the customers, discouraging them from buying the product and then driving at least some of them to shoot her and then kill a police officer? Besides all of this, what was that scene trying to say?
What about certain flashbacks from Casey's life as a crook and also him shooting bad guys?
Or that Jamaican man pointing a gun at Casey whilst rapping away on the phone eager to sign a record deal?
The film's notorious and controversial gender reversal infamous scene with Dallas as the perpetrator and Casey as the victim at her hands. Besides it being what it is, what did the filmmaker try to say with that scene? And also, how come few if any reviewers here mention unusual but still SHOCK VALUE of it on the order of "Agh" oh my God!" instead of talking about "male fantasies" etc etc etc and being too direct with "legal" sides? Was the scene supposed to be darkly satirical?
Also, notice that he was portrayed as often a tough guy who was capable of battling and killing big tough men and succeeding, even when they held him at gunpoint and whatnot but how did that lady Dallas succeed and overpower him so well, alone, was she also physically strong as well as mentally smart or are we not supposed to think too much about it?
The lead character getting a frying pan instead of a gun out of the fridge. Him also putting body parts in rubbish bags and hoping no-one would suspect anything. Let alone tie him to it.
Arguably the weirdest cop EVER played by legendary Mickey Rourke and his carrying a severed HEAD in a bag easily and being undetectable.
That ending with Casey reuniting with his wife, before some men burst into his home and spray machine gun fire whereas he gets to drive off that Lamborghini etc.
What do you think, thanks.
