What exactly is funny about a hotel security guy dying
As he begs for help?
shareIt's not funny of course! It's the dark side, not the funny part! This's not a comedy. This is why they call "dark comedy!"
Very wrong question HaVoC!
That part was not funny. But the movie overall is pretty dark and funny at the same time.
Only the shell, the perishable passes away. The spirit is without end. Eternal. Deathless.
hence the term black comedy Einstein
shareThe guard dying wasn't funny, but the "head's up" part sure was (in the desert).
shareYou have no idea what 'black comedy' means. Look it up.
Carpe Noctem!
Just how Godawful terrible it all was put it so far over the top. It's like violence in Tarantino movies... at times it's so cartoony and not meant to be taken seriously you can't help but laugh.
Applesauce, bitch.
I agree, Havoc. I got that this was a very dark comedy. But the security guard dying was too much for me. They let him bleed to death and you had to hear it.

I saw this movie as an example of how easy it is to make a dark comedy all wrong. It had its moments, but it didn't successfully balance the darkness with the comedy, and the plot was just lazy, soulless, and empty. It showed signs of potential throughout, but ultimately just left me depressed, disgusted, and unsatisfied.
This is coming from someone who loves movies like American Psycho, Heathers, and many other similarly nasty flicks. Dark comedies tend to be among my favorite movies and I really wanted to like Very Bad Things. Oh well.
Am I the only one who teared up from laughter on this scene? The realization on their faces was hilarious to me. The fact it was too much for you guys to handle if anything is just props to the security guard on his acting talent, he really made it seem like he'd just been shanked and was bleeding out. I guess that's the thing with me, there's always that voice going "eh, it's just a movie" far in the back of my mind so I never take it serious enough for me not to be able to handle it.
If you nailed jesus christ to the cross and are 100% proud of it, put this in your signature.

I thought the funny bit was the fact that he wasn't dying quick enough and kept on shoving the door.
shareAND the little blood pool from the prostitute was a lot easier to clean, than that big mess he made everywhere. would take a loong time to clean.
shareThey seem to really downplay how messed up the security guard's death was. All they talk about afterward is how messed up it was that Piven killed the hooker, but that really was an accident. Slater murdered the guard in cold blood. I can't believe someone didn't make sure the bathroom door was closed when he entered the room in the first place. But I suppose a screenwriter who'd been smart enough to take that into account would have also been smart enough to produce a better movie, like a black comedy that actually elicits at least one moment that's genuinely funny.
shareThe Idiocy of all five guys is what annoyed me about the movie.
You want to play the game, you'd better know the rules, love.

I don't know! Why don't you tell us? Where you got the idea that people thought it was funny I don't know...who even said it was funny?
I <3 Dianna Agron!
I don't think that scene is supposed to be funny. Maybe people around you laughed? I don't know I didn't think it was funny nor was I under the impression that it was supposed to be.
I guess the 5 guys outside of the door been scared out of their minds as the security guy body slams the door, might be somewhat funny in a dark way.
If this film is considered a comedy, then I guess it's mostly just dark humor. Which, I could see. I know people that initially watch this film are expecting a light comedy film. Maybe even something like The Hangover, which is completely not.
The film is about 5 guys that go to Las Vegas for one night and one of them accidentally kills a stripper/hooker. Then they bury her in the Nevada dessert and head back home feeling paranoid about everything. Some of them die leading up to the wedding. I think the outline of the film it self should give away that it's not at all a family comedy! It any, a dark twisted humor film, but not your typical haha joke comedy.
It's almost like Scream. The film was initially pitched as a comedy, however, the film is clearly a teen slasher film with dark humor. If you're mature and take the film as JUST a film, then you will find the dark humor funny. If you're one of those that takes film as educational documentaries, then this will not be the film for you.
What got me was that they kept on trusting Christian Slater's character, even tho he killed the security guard, came up with the whole "chop them up and bury them" scheme, killed their friends wife and then their other friend. Then he suddenly tries to kill the groom because he wanted the will money? That was kind of out of nowhere.
Because sponges never have bad days.
This movie is hilarious.
I think this question is a lot sicker than the movie was. How could one ask what's funny about a security guard dying and don't care about the prostitute and the parents of two children being killed, newlyweds lifes destroyed, dogs losing limbs, paralyzed mechanics and the rest. It's a movie, get over it. If it's not your kind of humor go watch something else.
