This film defines 'dark comedy' and is GREAT!

Some films are not for everybody and this is one of them. I thought it was great! I own it and saw it numerous times at the theater. You know why I like it? Because I understand that it is a MOVIE!!!! This is not real!!!!!! You see? The performances are just so good. The abyss just keeps getting deeper and darker and deeper and darker. This is one of those movies where events just begin to spiral downward and you wonder when it will ever stop. Hey, some people are not into this kind of stuff, they don't get the movie, so they say it was the worst movie ever, blah blah blah. So be it, movies are subjective and what one likes another hates. However, IMO, this is a truly great film.

You see, I also liked this movie and thought it was just frickin hilarious. I just about fell out of my chair when I was watching this and the scene where Christian Slater threw a body part at Daniel Stern and said "Let me give you a hand" was just awesome. Finally I have encountered another person that felt this movie was funny, which it is, and not trash, which so many other filmas are......

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you-do or do not there is no try.

In fact there's very little comedy in this dark film

I thought it was all fairly good movie except I didn't like the ending; thought it wasn't quite so fitting... I think maybe should of been 1) the groom(I'm not good with names:P) should of chickened out at the idea of killing his last friend( maybe kills the dog );resulting in Diaz kills them and happily ever after:P...... 2) Diaz dumps em last minute unaware of events and there for everything happened for no reason..... 3) The guy ends up killing/not killing his friend gives up and heads back to vegas with the dog;P or similar

reply

yep, i like it! it totally defines dark comedy, and it's obviously not real...it's just a way to kind of teach people that one lie leads to another and then another...

reply

this movie was hilarious... i loved it...

reply

Agreed this is a truly brilliant film and one of Diaz's few decent roles.

It is a brilliant film. I think people that hate it, hate it because it has a lot of disturbing stuff in it. So because the film shakes them and makes them uncomfortable, they give it a bad review, which is petty and stupid. It is kind of like "Spun" in that regard.

Great movie and actually it is hilarious in some ways...

reply

omg lmao i looove this movie....it sux tho cuz NONE of my friends have seen it (which doesnt surprise me...im in 8th grade...but still)

I just wrote a final paper on this movie for my 'History and Criticism of Cinema' class on how this is a prime example of dark comedy. Good to see there are plenty of others out there who appreciate it.

reply

good for you, I wouldn't mind reading it as this is becoming one of my
favourites, the dialogue is genius (so many quotable lines) and very few
films have so many classic scenes.....the people that hate it just don't
"get" it, it's such a unique non hollywood film, you have to watch it multiple
times so that you get beyond the disturbing scenes and really appreciate it's satirical commentary on suburbia......the only other black comedy that comes close to to this is "Heathers" which also stars Christian Slater......and
probably Last Supper (cameron diaz again).

It's a great movie to watch when your drunk....

Honestly... I had watched the movie once and had found parts of it funny, but now, after half a bottle of vodka I laughed all the way...

it's a great movie anyway....drunk or high !!!!
If you'll excuse me,am gonna go home'n'have a heart attack!!!Pulp Fiction

reply

I think its better the second time you see it. The murders aren't as shocking the second time, so you can absorb more of the humor. This is one of those rare movies that gets better every time I see it.

I should have just done the honest thing and murdered those emus

I can think of many better dark comedies:

Gross Point Blank
Heathers
Fargo
Burn After Reading
True Romance
Suicide Kings
Being John Malkovich
Pulp Fiction

I just thought the script of this movie sucked, the acting was good and I like the genre and the actors but I didn't like the script.

I loved the script.

I haven't seen Gross Point Blank, Burn After Reading, or Suicide Kings, but I like Very bad Things a lot more than Heathers, Fargo, True Romance, and Being John Malkovich. It obviously can't top pulp fiction though.
