Did I miss something?

I watched this yesterday after it sat on my DVR for a while. Now I almost wish somebody had erased it before I wasted an hour or so of my life. Only an hour because I fast forwarded through a lot of it. Just an all around horrible movie with no redeeming qualities. A majority of the movie centered around multiple people yelling at the same time. It's annoying in real life when people continue to get louder and louder as they try to talk over each other, why make a movie out of it? Maybe one or two scenes, but wow. God awful movie.

What's that say for the entirety of the horror genre if this movie was bad because you feel it didn't have much comedy? It had all the other qualities of a horror/thriller flick. Pretty much makes us all sick.

All the yelling over each other was just the worst. It made this movie nearly unbearable. I think it's safe to assume no one in this movie has ever actually been involved in this situation so they speculated that this is how you communicate once you and your friends been complicit in hooker murder and decided to frame all of the dialogue thusly. Some people actually think it was funny, I just found it grating and irritating--like Jeremy Piven.

Yeah I didn't like it either... really disappointing. I was a Christian Slater fan as a teenager and I feel like I have been waiting for ages to see this and couldn't be more let down. Your description of people shouting at each other was very accurate. It was just boring, loud arguments.

And the ending REALLY pissed me off. There is nothing funny at all about being in a wheelchair. I just thought all of the disabled people in her backyard at the end was not the comic climax it was supposed to be. I hated it. My mum is in a wheelchair and I just think if you are going to pick on someone for comic value in a movie it would be more intelligent to pick on any other group than one who is victimised and discriminated against all of their lives already. Was really low... and I don't even get how it was supposed to be funny.

It was so bad I couldn't completely look away but left it on in the background while working. I think Ebert was right with the one star reprehensible rating.

It's unsettling that so many people admire it because it's so mean spirited and inconsistent. There are plenty of dark movies like Clockwork Orange that are thought provoking. This was just vulgar.

I startd watching this on Netflix ..lturned it off after the prostitute gets killed ... Before it culminated to that point I thought it looked like he was killing her ...it remindedmmemof a snuff film, what iveheard about them at least. Sorry but I found it a pretty scary storytelling.

Tuned it off because the story seemed to me to be mentally perverse
A sick story created by a sick mind. And racist to boot. It seems like something from the mind of a crack addict

I'm shocked such well respected actors would ever participate in such a perverse film ... Usually if you are a smart actor you turn down garbage. I wouldn't even compare to garbage cuz I wouldn't want to denigrate garbage . This is beyond perverse

Can't believe it was ever produced and released to the general public

@jsavak24:

So you decide to watch a movie that is described on IMDB with one sentence: "A prostitute is killed during a bachelor party and the attendees turn on each other as the wedding approaches."

Then a prostitute does get killed and you turn it off because you are offended? Sorry, that doesn't make sense to me. And since you only saw 15 mins or so of the film, maybe you shouldn't comment on it and insult the filmmakers in the process.

This film is a dark comedy, a very dark comedy. It's completely over the top and unrealistic but the script and the acting are top notch and make it one of the funniest comedies of the 90s. Well, at least, if you like that sort of humor.

Maybe it's not the kind of comedy you find funny (fair enough) but it's a comedy nonetheless. So people shouldn't make the mistake of taking it too seriously.

reply

It's only a comedy if it makes me laugh. There wasn't (for me) any laugh lines in the scene where the prostitute was killed. It seemed loud and annoyingly confused, but that didn't strike me as funny. The problem is, if you don't get the jokes, you're going to take it seriously.

I'm not averse to dark and gruesome comedies - I like movies like A Simple Plan and Blood Simple. Very Bad Things just seemed loud and frenetic.

Nice nice nice. Lots of stories about accidental killings . Most of them not morally pervers. But if you readreviews by professional film critics you will notice they hold similar opinions as the one i wrote. Admittedly it wasnt too articlate but I was reviewing utter gabage anyway.

Ive seen films with dark humor which are actually quality films. And who cares if i insult the "filmmakers"
The filmamkers are insulting the general public who they rob money from to watch this trash.
But maybe you are one of the staff , so .

Also believe me, i have seen films i find morally repugnant but am objectove enough to admit when they are well written, well acted and well directed. Its not rocket science

Well aticlate is not a word, so you swung and missed on that one.
The point is that you watched maybe 20 minutes of the movie before you decided to turn it off. Therefore, no matter what anyone elses' review of the movie happens to be, you are not qualified to offer one. There are plenty of movies that I liked for the first 20 and ended up not liking the total film, and vice versa.
So once you watch the entire movie and have the same opinion, though I still may not agree with you, at least you're just not spouting unwarranted nonsense.

Now, this definitely falls into the realm of a black comedy, and most of that came after the point you stopped watching. You say it didn,t make you laugh in 20 minutes, but that does not change the genre of movie it is. Just the fact that you said that makes me believe that you don't understand the concept. It's not supposed to make you belly laugh, it's not Airplane or teh Naked Gun. You mention other movies saying you understand what the genre entails, but if they made you outright laugh, then that;s just weird.
You may not have like the subject matter you saw in the first 20 minutes, but that does not mean it wasn't well written, and it was definitely well acted. It just means it wasn't what you like.

Now as far as saying it reminded you of a snuff film...or what you've heard of them. This makes me believe that you are just an ignorant moron that came here to trash a film you haven't even seen in any unassociated way you could think of. I'd like to know who you are acquainted with that "told" you this, because it's pretty easy to google and find what a snuff film actually is. If this is what you think you saw, then you have mental issues.
Snuff Film: "A movie in a purported genre of movies in which an actor is actually murdered or commits suicide on film. It includes the depiction of the actual murder of a person or people, without the aid of special effects, for the express purpose of financial exploitation."

Gotta love how the title is "Did I miss something" and the OP then admits to fast-forwarding through parts of the film. I'll never understand people who hate movies they don't even watch all of.
