So no director's cut?

Why not?
Who is behind this watergate?
Is Cruise not happy with some of his cut off scenes?
Is it so costly nowadays for Paramount to just put out a 3.5 hours alternative edit?
Are they afraid the public is so stupid is going to be confused by 2 versions?

JUST RELEASE THE FUCKING FILM ALREADY AND LET US DECIDE

So no director's cut?

Everyone's still trying to forget shelling out their hard earned bucks to see this damn thing at the multiplexes to begin with. Releasing a director's cut just rubs salt in that open wound

reply

Do you know of better-than-the-official-release-DC?
That's the whole fuckin point.

This movie clearly lacked something.
Maybe the original vision by Woo will fix that.
If we could only see it.

reply

I'm going to be honest: I respect Woo as a director, but I'm not sure I'm sitting through 3.5 hours of Mission: Impossible II to find out if it's good/bad/improved/whatever. Maybe if it came out and there was near-unanimous praise for it, but... yeah, it's hard to imagine that being a thing I want to watch. I didn't even hate the original film; I think it's a fine action flick. I just don't want to watch it for 3+ hours.

reply

I am always in favor of DC when the final product is bad, disappointing or overly cut.
I know of too many examples of better cuts.

MI2 is not the greatest movie, and if the rumored original cut was that longer, then I am curious to see it. I think it would fix lots of problems and make it more epic, intriguing, and sell the romance better.

reply

Very good points, and a good case for at least allowing the DC to be released. I would certainly give it a shot if there were strong votes of confidence from credible sources.

Is there any indication of what kind of stuff was cut? Is it character development, or bigger action scenes and more helicopter shots of mesas?

reply

I have no clue.
There is a big original script online that is quite different from the movie.
I think all the big action is in the film, I would expect more story and character. I heard there is a whole scene with Hopkins left out.

reply

I, as most did, preferred M:I to M:I II, and a lot of that had to do with the shift in tone. The first film was spy thriller, the second was an action movie, more or less. If the missing footage brought back some of that espionage tone, made the three leads (Ethan, Nyah, and Sean) pop more, yeah, it could drastically improve the film.

reply

That is what I was hoping for.
We can only wait for them to decide to let us see it.

What a spoiled shithead.
Expecting everyone to get YOU what YOU want.
Grow the fuck up.
Your posts are as immature as they come.

There was a VHS 4hrs workprint pirate release that came outa Greece back in 2000. It would be cool to have that released. John Wo had so much studio pushback that be basically vacated Hollywood after this. Directors cut is unlikely.

reply

Ok but he can always come back. He is talented, in an era of anonymous hacks directing shit for streaming services he would stand out as a master.
This DC could be a good project to bury the hatchet.
