Where the rainbow ends

When the models try to take Bill away at the party in the beginning of the film, they mention that they are going to take him “where the rainbow ends.” Could the “rainbow” be symbolic of the LGBTQ rainbow with the end of that rainbow being “Q,” representing queer? Bill’s refusal could represent him not wanting to become or be seen as queer. There also is the part when he is harassed by the guys on the street who make fun of him by insinuating that Bill is gay or queer. Also the men at the end of the store at Rainbow Fashions engage in queer behavior. And, Bill is exposed at the masked orgy and filled with shame almost like one who has been exposed as being queer.

Ban this movie for being anti gay.

Also noticed the scene where the hotel manager seems to have a gay attraction to Bill.

I dunno . . this is the kind of thing one can play with all day and go anywhere.

In general, as far as I know, the idea of a rainbows ends implies a reward, otherwise known as a "pot of gold."

I'm also remembering the rainbow associated with the costume shop later in the film (there may be other references).

The models, in that moment, appeared to suggest that if Bill goes with them there will be a sexual reward.

To that end, perhaps that is what was waiting for Bill at the costume shop as well, since the father was willing to give up his daughter, in the offer of a sexual reward, for cash.

But is that really what is intended or meant? And if so, to what end? Why is it important? The implication would be that there is a larger meaning to the idea of sex as a reward.

And so on . . .

See what I mean?

I am pretty sure those 2 girls weren't there to propose gay sex with Bill.

I think you are reaching.

The phrase is a Mind Control trigger phrase. They thought they could put him in a tranced suggestive state by using it.

It has nothing to do with homosexuality.

I don't think it's as specific as that. Who knows what those models have in mind? He never finds out.

Of course, if something is at 'the end of the rainbow', idiomatically it's impossible to attain or achieve -- a 'treasure' that you can never reach. And it is to do with sex and sexuality in the film. Eyes Wide Shut is filled with a variety of sexual possibilities and innuendoes for Bill that never materialise. It doesn't even mean he's interested in them. He's plainly disgusted by one of them -- in the place that's actually called 'Rainbow'.

They're just things that happen -- a range of possibilities and human experiences.
