Are They Clay?

Even when I like the film itself, the thing that really drives me nuts about Aardman/Lord/Park productions (and has bugged me since first seeing their productions nearly twenty years ago) is the character design. Specifically, the mouths on their characters. The upper teeth are always curved while the lower jaws have their teeth set in a nearly straight line. I find this so distracting that whenever I try to watch one of their films, all I can do is stare at those mismatched sets of teeth.

Yes, I know it's a cartoon, but one of the principles of design (at lead in regard to film) is to not let individual elements interfere with the story being told. Am I the only one who feels this way?

It doesn't bother me to be honest. Every now and then I notice thier faces and just think how funny they are then I laugh and carry on watching the film.

One toke? You poor fool! Wait till you see those goddamn bats.

reply

yes you are alone. I really like the Aardman art direction in all their claymations. Its what makes them an Aardman.

I do believe in you... I just know you are going to fail.

I see this was written nine years ago. Have you died since of chronic stupidity or have you managed to miraculously survive? Also, FYI, it's "are all" not "is all" if you are referring to the plural.
