HBO developing TV sci-fi drama series based on the 1998 movie 'Sphere'

Don't remember this. Metascore 35!

Denise Thé ("Person of Interest," "Gotham" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") will serve as showrunner and the show will be co-executive produced by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, who seem to have a penchant for Crichton's work having already turned his 1973 movie "Westworld" into TV series for HBO. Hopefully however, this attempt will prove to be better than that adaptation, which was — and let's not mince words – dreadful.

I didn't hate this as much as I expected, but is there that much to make into a tv show? Westworld or Jrassic Park had a lot to offer as far as thematic material. But remove the scif-fi element, Sphere is ultimately just a bunch of people confined underwater.

reply

meh... they'll stretch it out much farther than the under water part. probably just be another muddy drama about people with super thinking powers doing stuff. another jump on the bandwagon POS

Yippie.

im pretty sure even the 3 stars of the movie would be thinking the same as me and everyone else who bothered to see Sphere back in 98 - why?

reply

I would much rather see a remake of CONGO than SPHERE.

reply

Congo works as is though the only interesting thing was the gorillas.

Sphere was awful.

Needs a redo.

reply

Why base it in the movie and not the novel?

As a sequel, maybe?

I doubt enough people saw or even remember the awful movie for that to work.
