The intro is racist garbage
Black people bitching about white people, yawn, can't black people sing another tune? So boring.
shareBlack people bitching about white people, yawn, can't black people sing another tune? So boring.
shareThat’s the best part
shareI think that it is meant to be satirical in part to the criticism over that the first had an all-white cast, and partly playing on the saying that the black guy always dies first.
shareYep exactly. A lot of Scream's meta goes over people's heads.
shareIt was actually really refreshing to have an all-white cast in Scream, it made sense too given that it was a rural, white picket fence town.
Screams 5 and 6 went hardcore woke with its new ultra-diverse Woodsboro, mixed race couples, minority armour for the leads, nasty deaths for white characters (including beloved straight white male legacy hero Dewey who gets skewered and hoisted into the air by a tiny girl) and of course exclusively white villains.
Needless to say, I don’t consider those films canon at all. Scream ends at 4 and died along with Craven.
I have not seen Scream 5 and 6 because I read that they have worse gore than any Scream ever made before. I already thought Scream 4 was bad enough with the Olivia kill, that one was a bit too much for me. I used to be able to withstand a lot in horror movies, but guess I've gotten more sensitive with age or something.
shareI totally agree with this. Scream 4 should have been the end of it. 5 and 6 are definitely not worth rewatching.
shareI always thought Scream 3 was the weakest, but that film is a masterpiece compared to 5 and 6.
I guess 3 is still the worst… since 5,6 and the undoubtedly shitty and woke 7 are not canon.
For sure. 3 is the weakest, but I love it for the fact that it shines a huge spotlight on how corrupt Hollywood was and is. It was literally calling out people like Weinstein 15 years before anyone else!
shareTrue dat. Time has been very kind to Scream 3 in that regard.
What's even more satisfying is that it was made using Weinstein's money! Wes Craven had the balls to use Weinstein dollars to make a movie that dumps on Weinstein
shareComedy self-own.
That said, I wish Weinstein was back making films. Miramax made so many great movies in the 90’s and beyond.
Hollywood produces an endless sewer of shit now, we need figures like Weinstein to bring back some quality…
I agree to an extent. I don't think we necessarily need Harvey in particular. He probably deserves to be ousted for what he's done. But you're absolutely right about the later part of the 20th Century being the best time for American cinema. We need people like Dino DeLaurentis and Mario Kassar. Directors like Chris Columbus, Luc Besson, Sam Raimi. The list can go on and on.
And shoot on actual film, dammit! We have a few good names nowadays, Safdie Brothers come to mind, and I suppose Jordan Peele and Ari Aster deserve some credit too.
We're you offended by the same scene in Scary Movie?
shareI still get those scenes from both films mixed up in my head lol. I know both films are 'different' but my head just smashes them together.
shareI never saw the intro as racist, it was just foreshadowing. The character who thinks she is the most knowledgeable gets taken out first.
Jada Pickett Smith’s character says, among other things, “See if that was me, I’d be outta there!” and “Star 69 his a$$” (yeah, like that would have made a difference”!).
Just standard fair in movies like this, especially ones that are self aware. Sydney tells Randy in the first Scream that she hates those scary movies because it’s always a big breasted girl running upstairs when she should be running out the door. “It’s insulting”.
Yet two minutes later, she does that very thing. I don’t get worked up over a character’s comments in a movie.
Go on social media platforms like twitter/x and there's millions of them saying this same type of stuff everyday.
