Breaking Bad ripped off a scene

watching this again got me reminded that the scene at the end with Jackie pointing the gun being fast practicing drawing her gun on screen, Breaking Bad ripped off that scene with Walt practicing for the Gus meeting

true

Haven't there been a lot of those? Taxi Driver's most famous quote comes from a scene of Travis Bickle practicing quickdraws and stand-off situations.

reply

Yeah, I think it's been in a few Westerns as well.

Your missing the point, that was random, also ad libbed at the time. It wasn’t about defending himself against a particular rival.

This scene was about fear and being faster than who they were both up against. That being one person. And both having no idea how to use a gun and be fast. Both weaker then the order.

I actually thought the scene where Walt buys the gun from the illegal dealer in the motel room was a reference to Taxi Driver.

reply

Maybe? It could just be that when you go to write a "buy gun in backroom deal" scene that it comes off a little Taxi Driver because of how iconic that film is.

I'm too fuzzy on the particulars of both scenes to be able to point to anything that would be unique to both and atypical of what one would expect to happen in such a scene.

reply

that happens every time a gun is bought in a movie, whether the buyer is an expert or not .
theres a lot of waving it around and looking down the sights , and usually some pulling it out of an imaginary holster.
like theyre trying on a hat!

reply

Yeah, right...total rip off!
There's also a scene in this movie where Nicolette is clearly breathing air, and I noticed that Pinkman in s2e5 does the same at one point...

Or the scene where Robert Forester is driving in a car, Walt did almost the exact same thing in the Horse With No Name episode. Or the scene where Samuel L Jackson shoots someone, Todd did the same thing in the Dead Freight episode.

One of the songs in this film ended up in Better Call Saul when Jimmy starts selling the phones.
