Anyone else think this is a comedy in a way?

I know it's serious and labelled a thriller, but I was wondering if anyone else sees the scenes in this as down right funny. Im not making fun of the movie because I think it's good and rate it an 8, but there's something that is hysterical about watching Michael Douglas get messed with. The way he acts and plays these roles is funny as s---. He's the perfect actor to prank because he's so up tight and serious. It's like his role in Falling Down. Lol.

Maybe not a straight comedy, but a psychological thriller with a hint of irony?

I agree that it is at least partially a comedy. While its overall tone is that of a thriller, it has a lot more "comedic relief" moments than the average thriller, which is both part of what I think makes it enjoyable and helps with the suspension of disbelief.

Christine a Nick mumble humorous anecdotes at times.

I can see your point. Maybe that is one of the reasons I love this movie. There are times I smile at Nick's utter befuddlement.

reply

Yep. That's it. Anytime Michael Douglas gets his mind played with is funny. The whole thing is one "extreme prank" by his brother. It's an extra dangerous version of Punked or Jackass.

Yea i totally agree, this is such a fun movie.

"I went not once but twice through the spanking machine" has me laughing out loud ever time.

reply

Yeah. That's a good point because the film is about a practical joke.

Him waiting till he gets in the thruway to deal with that briefcase that will not open is a damn riot. 1/2+ the people passing him by give him nary notice. That's Americans in America.

When the toilet overflows is another hoot. We've all been there. You're screwed the moment you realize there is too much water to hold the load.

The discourse when he loses his expensive (shoe). "That one was." Unsurpassed dead pan.

& you're right, berg, nobody, but NOBODY does these like MD. He's spot on, perfection personified.
