What are some moments that have made you cry?

I have a question for you all. Apart from obvious tear-jerking moments like Buffy, Tara or Joyce dying, what particular moments have moved you to the point of tears or deep reflection?

Mine is the moment between Buffy and Spike in the episode After Life, where a catatonic Buffy visits Spike, and he gives Buffy a big, moving speech about how he saved her many times. I never thought much of this episode until I experienced something that made it personal, and that moment, when I revisited it, made me break down and cry. The idea of losing someone and being burdened by guilt, and then being given a second chance that allows you to tell them face to face how sorry you are for being unable to do more...that moment is absolutely soul crushing.

I was actually watching that episode on my phone while I was in the waiting room at the doctor's office, and I had to walk out because I got so emotional.

Buffy's "I don't want to die speech" and Angel and Giles' expressions during it

When Angel tells Buffy he has to leave to separate The Judge's body parts on her birthday

Most of Innocence

Giles', Willow's and Buffy's reactions to Jenny's death and then the end of Passion

The end of Becoming

For some reason I tear up during Restless

When Buffy finds out about Dawn in No Place Like Home

The end of Fool for Love

The end of Into the Woods even though I was glad to see Riley leave. Just can't help but feel for Buffy

All of The Body

The end of Forever

Buffy's "I don't know how to live in this world" speech and of course the end of The Gift

The end of The Bargaining

When Buffy tells Spike she was in heaven

When everyone finds out Buffy was in heaven

The end of Tabula Rasa

The end of Dead Things

The end of Hell's Bells

The end of Normal Again

The end of Grave

When Buffy cries looking at a picture of her, Xander and Willow in Empty Places

The end of Chosen

So a lot I guess

In addition to the scened cited by the OP, I'm going to borrow from your list since you covered most of the moments which come to mind for me:

Buffy's "I don't want to die speech" and Angel and Giles' expressions during it

Giles', Willow's and Buffy's reactions to Jenny's death and then the end of Passion

The end of Fool for Love

The end of Into the Woods

All of The Body

the end of The Gift

The end of The Bargaining

When Buffy tells Spike she was in heaven

When everyone finds out Buffy was in heaven

The end of Tabula Rasa

The end of Dead Things

The end of Grave

The end of Chosen

A few other moments which I found especially touching:

The end of When She Was Bad

The end of Becoming, Part 2

The end of Amends

Buffy confronting Jonathan in Earshot

The end of The Prom

The end of Intervention

When Glory attacks Tara in Tough Love

the Giles/Tara duet in Once More, With Feeling

the scene in the church at the end of Beneath You

I did say the end of Becoming. But you also posted a few more that I didn't even think of.

There's just so much feeling on this show!

reply

Why so you did. My bad . . . but in my defense, it was a big list -- there's just so much feeling on this show! :)

reply

I should have let it go, now I feel bad lol.

Oh! I just remembered when I cried happy tears at the end of Family.

reply

Curious, out of all these moments, which one is one that just spoke to you on a personal level? I'd love to hear it!

"I don't know how to live in this world if these are the choices." That feeling where everything just seems to be getting stripped away from you when you're already dealing with a major issue, I can relate to that this year more than ever.

I guess that's the case both by the end of season 2 and the end of season 5. But that dialogue to Giles in The Gift just hits home.

reply

Sorry I missed the apart where you said besides the obvious

reply

Oh, no, that's cool, too!

I'm curious, though, what is it about Restless that makes you tear up.

I think it's the music in certain scenes and the part with Xander and his father.

I don't tear up or cry all the time with these episodes, but I have and probably will again if I watch in the right mood. I'm rewatching again right now and I've already cried in Prophecy Girl, Passion and Becoming but I've been kind of a wreck lately. Feels good to cry to an episode of Buffy though, doesn't it?

reply

Yes, it really does because it becomes much more meaningful.

My favourite is always Spike's speech in Beneath you.

When Spike grabs the sword in Spiral and cuts his hands to shreds

When Buffy tells Dawn that Joyce has died.

Willow crying (any time Willow cries) in Passion

Spike's speech to Buffy in Touched

Angel's speech in Amends "Am I a thing worth saving..."

reply

When she cries after the killing the Master.

reply

So many moments make me tear up every time I re watch the series. And I'm a guy!

-Buffy's 'I don't want to die' speech in Prophecy Girl
-Buffy breaking down and smashing the Master's bones in When She Was Bad
- Buffy receiving the class protector award
- Buffy in tears in Innocence (pretty much any time SMG cries, makes me cry)
- Buffy and Jonathan in the bell tower in Earshot. Touching moment
- Jenny's death in Passion, and the Scoobies reaction. Especially Willow's .
- The end of The Gift. Tears me up every time. Especially Spike sobbing at the end
- Buffy telling Spike she was in heaven
- Once More with Feeling, pretty much the whole episode, but especially Buffy's revelation to the gang she was in heaven
- Xander saves the world in Grave, and Willow breaks down in tears. Alyson Hannigan's crying is so infectious.

Anya left standing at the altar while wedding music plays and Xander left... that was heart breaking...

The end of The Gift.

Willow confessing to Kennedy that she feels like she killed Tara in The Killer In Me.

Willow in Conversations with Dead Things, thinking that she is finally speaking with Tara.

The end of Forever.

Those are the only times I can remember crying.. Basically anything with Willow/Tara really got to me.

'Wesley, why can't I stay?' And 'would you like me to lie to you now?'

reply

OMG, those two moments are amazing. Although they didn't make me cry, but were gut wrenching and devastating nonetheless.

In Nightmares, the scene between Hank and Buffy. Reminds me of my own father.
