This is one of those movies that's about a topic

that isn't particularly popular or mainstream and presents it in a very matter of fact way, as if we're all supposed to easily follow, understand, and be interested in it. Like we all live in this world. And it succeeds at it too! You are sucked into this world even though you don't really know or care about storm-chasing.

Deepwater Horizon, Days of Thunder, and Unstoppable are other movies about topics most people don't give a shit about but are good ad immersing you into them.

Very true regarding Days of Thunder. Great cast and phenomenal score by Hans Zimmer - and I couldn't give a baker's fuck about NASCAR but damn if I didn't get sucked right into that film.

I enjoy Twister. It reminds me of simpler times in the 90s.

I like to enjoy NASCAR in the background on drunk Sundays, but I could NEVER tell you a thing about the sport itself. Whose in first place, the popular driver at the moment, how you win - especially since races have "quarters" now - etc., but you're 100% right. Days of Thunder is extremely engrossing.

You know, your post reminded me of another movie with similar circumstances. Blue Chips, starring Nick Nolte. Another great cast for a subject I couldn't care less about - which is college basketball. That said, the performances in the film were genuine and I still enjoy a re-watch of that film from time to time.

Yes!!! I'm not much of a basketball guy at all. I am currently rooting for my home team in the playoffs, but don't follow much at all. But Blue Chips? Makes me feel like a longtime basketball fan.

I would describe Twister as a very midwest movie. We have to live with the threat of tornados every year and I love that Twister created a world I know and characters that are very believable.

One particular quote that resonates with me because it’s where I live lol. “Well Kansas is a mess and there’s a big crease right through Wichita.”
