Melissa

Does anyone else think she is so annoying??! I like the actress but the character is awful. I love this movie except for her.

I think she's supposed to be that way so when it becomes obvious that Bill still loves Jo, you won't be mad at him for it. You'll be sitting there going, "Dump the annoying one and go back to your wife, damnit!"

Maybe this would've happened sooner if I'd have kept my little wiccan nose out of it.

reply

Hahaha very true!

Star!!!!! what the hell did they do to Star!!!!

They gave her 50yr old hair and put her in a suit, who came up with that idea!!!!!

I need to watch Lostboys again to remember her how she used to look

Incredible juggs she had though...

(Notice I used 2 gg's in juggs)

What are you talking about? Jami Gertz is sooooooo pretty.

"Munchkin doesn't like being pushed!" HP

She actually looks better later in "Still Standing"f from 2002, that was an awful hair style that made her look much older.

She was still pretty, but the hair was too mature.

agreed. i love the actress but melissa was annoying. i understand she couldnt handle it but she didnt get that was his job. i also don't think she was supposed to be a likeable character. i thought you were using a metaphor... chasing tornadoes, hahahaha. that part was funny to me!

I think they should have done her without the accent. I'm not sure why they gave her one and no other characters. They all can't be from accent neutral areas. Other than that her role is critical to the movie. She's the outsider asking questions as an excuse to explain things to the audience.

Yeah, she was a bit annoying. But I think (I think someone else mentioned it)she was supposed to be annoying. Though it was cool at the end where she told Bill that she was leaving, but she didn't hold it against him. So in reality, she was a good person, just annoying.

reply

I will respectfully dissagree. I did not think she was annoying at all. She played the role of a woman who had no knowledge or experience with twisters. Bill was not that honest with her and she was led to believe Bill was a very different man. Through out the movie she met one shocking truth after another, and experieces she was not prepared for.

I laughed more at her than any other character. Her reactions and fear during and after each twister were priceless. for example....
- The truck landing right in front of her.
- "I have to go Julia, we have cows..."
- The way she was bracing herself in the truck after the twister sisters.

Add that to the fact she was the one who spoke up and said she would leave.

I thought she did a bang up job for the role she was in.

"Me fail english? That's unpossible"

I found her to be incredibly dense. When Jo was telling her about the sensors being released in the funnel, she just shakes her head with this blank look on her face. I got a GED and never went to college and even I got what she was saying. And this woman is supposed to be some kind of doctor?? Please, Louise! Totally unbelievable.

reply

She has nice boobs.

reply

Agreed.

She was definitely annoying, but like others have said, it was so you didn't feel so sorry for her when Bill shifted his feelings back to Jo. Still, the movie did her a little justice by making her be the one to break things off with Bill and furthermore to outright give her blessing to Bill to go and be with Jo.

But the character was meant as nothing more than foil for Jo. Jo was spontaneous and adventurous and Melissa was more conservative and lived in a world far too sterile for Bill to exist within. Also, as a psychologist myself, I am generally unsatisfied with these quirky and annoying portrayals of therapists that seem to exist in movies. I have yet to meet one other psychologist like that at all. But the point of the character was to make you want Bill to be with Jo and that was the reason she was irritating.
