Glaring plot hole

So, at the Drive in, with all their equipment right there, and the twister coming right at them, none of these brilliant, brave, "extreme" people studying tornadoes as an occupation thought to turn on Dorothy and see if it worked? and miraculously, none of those vehicles was picked up and taken by the Twister, but the movie screen was?

Dorothy could have flown 2 twisters ago, or both Dorothys left at that point should have been destroyed.

Characters not behaving the way you think they should is not a plot hole. And maybe they just didn’t have the Dorothy ready to go. The twister took them by surprise. Also it was established that the twister just side swiped them, maybe it wasn’t close enough to where the vehicles were parked to throw them.
