No one else found this annoying? I mean, we now know him as a brilliant actor, but in this, yuck !! Of course, it seems like every team of movie scientists back in the 90's had at least one of these "characters".

Dusty was actually very boring in the original script. I think they changed him into a goofy, off-the-wall character for the film to spice things up. It might have even been Hoffman's idea. However, I do feel sorry for Melissa being stuck with him for much of the film.

I think it was all part of the....."this is a ragtag band of misfits....each with their own area of expertise they bring to the proceedings" cliche.....to contrast Carey Elwes' team of button-up, well-funded scientists cliche.
