Is this worth seeing just for Edward Norton's performance?

I was wondering if this was worth seeing just for Ed Norton's performance because I saw some of this on TV and wasn't very impressed, but Edward Norton is an awesome actor and he got an Oscar nom for this.

I just saw this movie yesterday. After seeing just a few of his other movies I've become pretty much obsessed with Edward Norton and I was wondering the same thing about this movie that the OP was. Since I generally try to avoid R-rated movies he was the only reason I wanted to see it and I might've regretted watching it if his performance hadn't given me my latest EN fix. But I completely agree with everyone; he is so freaking amazing. His role in this was especially interesting to me because the only other movies of his that I've seen so far are the few that display his softer side mostly, so this completely blew me away. He can go from heartbreakingly sweet to absolutely loathsome and back again within the space of a few minutes. It was incredible how one minute I wanted to just hug his character, the next I wanted to see him die. Just incredible. Did someone say he lost the Oscar to Cuba Gooding Jr. in Jerry Maguire? You've got to be kidding me! CGJ is a terrific actor but he was nothing special in that movie (which is criminally overrated anyway) compared to EN.

That said, even though he's the reason anyone should see this movie, I still thought it was a good movie apart from him. I actually thought both Richard Gere and Laura Linney were fantastic, and I enjoy courtroom dramas so I wasn't bored when EN wasn't on screen.

it was a decent movie, but edward norton was amazing and when he was not on screen i would look forward to the next time he would be on screen. he was spectacular in this.

Exactly! I only watch it to see his performance. Sometimes I've just FF through all the Richard Gere scenes and go straight Edward Norton. He's the only reason worth watching the movie.

OMG YES! I haven't seen this film in over 10 years (need to rent it again!) and I can still recall the look on Ed Norton's face at the end of the movie - and it still sends shivers down my spine! Exquisite acting.

Yes. It's one of his best performances.

i would say yes cause i seen this just cause im a fan of Edward Norton (i just seen it about 12hours ago or so for the first time).

but even besides his performance it was still a solid film that's easily worth watching. (Gere was solid enough in his role)

i give it a 8/10. (nice ending to ;) )

Yes yes and yes again. The movie itself is mildly entertaining, Richard Gere was ok, Laura Linneys character was a complete b---- though. Her acting was ok but the character she was portraying was just completely unlikeable in every aspect.

The movie is worth seeing for a lot more than that.... Gere, Linney and everyone involved were fantastic.... but yes, Edward Norton is the #1 reason to see it.

Take my advice. Watch "Stella". It's hysterical. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443409/

The only reason I knew about and bought this film was because Edward Norton is one of my favorite actors. After watching the film I watched the special features and found out that most the stuff that made Edwards alter boy character great were things not even in the script. For instance, the stuttering was not at all part of his character, Norton just made that up himself. And at the end, the clapping part was also made up as well as him yelling stuff at Gere as he walked away.

This is quite a shock. On the other hand, it's not surprising in the least.

HELL YES!!!!!!!! He's what MADE this movie. This movie wouldn't be half as good if it wasn't for Edward Norton!!! He should have won an Oscar for his performance. I heard Leonardo DiCaprio turned the role of Aaron/Roy down. I would have just about played that part for FREE!!!

reply

Absolutely.I can't believe this was his first movie !. He's brilliant in it, and i agree he should have won an Oscar.

Same with you i only watched this on tv and then years later bought it on dvd because of Eds amazing perfromance. The movies is great but without Edward in it, it wouldnt be worthing watching it.

I have to say: Yes, it is worth watching for Edward Norton's performance. For this being his first film ever, it truly is a one in a million performance and I really think he should have won the oscar for best supporting actor.
