I figured out the ending almost instantly

Was I alone on this? The whole point of this movie was supposed to be the shocking twist ending. But, I knew what was going to happen the entire time. No, I didn't have the ending spoiled. No, I didn't google it before watching. I knew absolutely nothing about this movie what so ever. I watched it because it was suggested as good Edward Norton film. I had other people say they were so shocked and dismayed by the ending. How is this possible? It was so obvious. I knew he was faking it 5 minutes into the first scene. Was it this extremely obvious to everyone else?

Did you know that Norton won awards for his performance? I think armed with that knowledge then it is very easy to figure out as multiple personality disorders often pick up awards (Usual Suspects being the most obvious and similar off the top of my head).

reply

I didn't see it coming but figured out the Sixth Sense pretty early.

No matter how many times I tell people that no one applauds or wants to shake my hand.

reply

Of course you did. I'm amazed at how many people here claim to see the solutions to movies like Primal Fear and The Usual Suspects right off the bat who are lying in order to impress perfect strangers. They never show how they are able to perform such feats ("it's just so obvious..."). Maybe they're magicians who never give up their secrets.

reply

I dunno - it's not that impressive when you consider it's Ed Norton in the role - Ed Norton, who has done very similar "surprise" endings (i.e. split personality / dual characters) in other well-known movies: Fight Club, The Score.

reply

No it's not that impressive. Tbh ALL of us saw the ending coming straight away because the ending was 1 of 2 things.

Mental disorders are by their very nature complex. Maybe Aaron DID have a serious disorder (certainly ties in with the abuse) and just learnt how to manage it more toward the end.

No you were not alone. I don't understand why people think this is clever. Especially immediately after a movie like The Usual Suspects was released a year before this movie, we have the most obvious character you are supposed to feel sympathy with, turn out to be the bad guy. It was so obvious I was expecting to be wrong and a twist revealing another character to be at fault, which means I spent the next hour or so bored out of my skull. Completely generic thriller.

Me too. To be fair it didn't spoil movie that much as there were other alternatives thrown in to make you think maybe not but I have to admit I pretty much guessed the whole plot twist from very beginning.

It'd be good to have you on jury on OJ type case. On the other hand if you were jury on another case maybe you'd send an innocent man down.

Life is not black and white but shades of grey.
