A major step up from part III

Bloodline is a huge step up from part 3; while 3 bored me sometimes, i was never bored with this one. Its feels like a true Hellraiser film

I agree. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole reason the general audience hates it is because it's Pinhead in space. They've been taught that horror villains in space is automatically bad, no matter who the villain is.

I realize the movie was butchered by the studio, but I still rate it above Hellraiser III. It's a much more serious, dark, disturbing movie and closer in tone to the original.

I know I'm almost 4 years late to the party, but this one has always felt like the true third film to me. The order I see them in as favorites is II, original, and IV. Even though it's in "space" partly, there is actually a valid reason it is in space, so I could care less seeing how only about 15-20 minutes of this film takes place on the spaceship.

This one wasn't bad by any means, but I actually preferred Part 3. It just entertained me more than this one and I feel the characters were more interesting.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

I wouldn't say its a huge step up from part 3 but I did like it slightly more. The first two are the only true Hellraiser movies to me.

Bloodline is the only good Hellraiser film, IMO.

I don't understand why anyone would like Bloodline if they don't like the first two or any other Hellraisers, but alright. As you said, your opinion, I can't say you're wrong.

Pinhead gets the most screen time in Bloodline. The first two are just okay and the others are pretty bad, though Revelations gets some points for feeling like a Hellraiser film.

I cringed when I first saw the sci-fi opening but it really wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it much more than 3 but I dislike where they took the Pinhead character.

Pinhead & The Cenobites seemed much more neutral in the 1st two movies. They gave a reason for Pinhead's "evil" character in the third movie but not for the 4th. He's just as evil in the 4th with no explanation.

Was there any reason given how the apprentice necromancer (or whatever) gained immortality? Did he get it from Angelique?

You're probably right. In the script, he rapidly decays into dust(ala Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) when he refuses to allow her to go to America, thus standing in Hell's way.

A fan on YouTube has made a fan edit/reconstruction based on the workprint of this film along with existing footage from the theatrical release, using animation to fill in the blanks for the missing scenes.

The way I see it, he's still the same "evil" Pinhead from part 3. After Captain Spencer merged with Pinhead at the end of 3, it was pretty clear Spencer's plan failed and the evil side still maintained dominance(At which point Spencer was only able to muster enough momentary control to tell Joey to send them both to hell). So Bloodline just continues with that same "evil" Pinhead.

Pinhead does seem to have the same basic goal in Bloodline, to be free of the limitations of the Lament Configuration. But even without succeeding in opening a more permanent gateway, he still seemed to have free rein until Bobbi sent him back to Hell. Knowing Hell's rules, why would he be allowed to torture and kill and cenobitize as much as he wants? Wouldn't Leviathan eventually rein him in?

reply

I liked 3 better but neither film is anywhere near the first 2. Bloodlines just felt kind of B movie to me. I know there is some missing footage so maybe that would've helped but I still feel that 3 is the third best in the series haha.

Had the exact opposite problem. Part 3 was fast paced, fun, and interesting while this one was beyond boring and dull. Not to mention 3 has way better characters and writing. This may have been more ambitious in plot scope, but that plot has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.

Yeah, I preferred the third one too. Pinhead walking round causing havoc. Just more fun. Bloodlines wasn't bad, but the third one edges it for me.
